We had the good fortune of connecting with Josephine Ampaw and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josephine, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
My value around accessibility is most important to me because It grounds my work and how I hope to show up for my clients. As a therapist and educator, I have found that accessibility to high quality and equitably priced therapy and consulting for minoritized communities and organizations was very difficult to find and a large reason why I started my business. To me, accessibility means that community members are able to be met where they are by me as a professional and gain the services that they need at a price point that serves the need while sustaining the business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hello! My name is Josephine Ampaw and I am the owner of Ampaw Psychotherapy and Consulting LLC, a premier mental health private practice and educational consulting firm that strives to provide equitable and inclusive services to communities and organizations in the Denver Metro area and beyond.

As a mental health therapist, I provide individual, couples, and family therapy by utilizing client centered and culturally informed approaches and interventions. I specialize in supporting underrepresented and minoritized communities and family systems. I also foster space for trauma therapy through the use of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy and Narrative Therapy.

As an educational consultant, I am able to support mental health professionals, educational organizations, and companies in general with the development of curriculum from a lens of understanding best and humanizing practices in education AND understanding the ways relationships impact one’s process of learning. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with organizations through Denver and am hoping to expand my reach to support those abroad!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to bring my best friend into town and show them an amazing time, I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants and explore new sites with them!

Some restaurants I would take them to are: Tupelo Honey, Snooze, Lucille’s, Asbury Provisions and Culver’s!

Some places that I would take my best frieind to visit are: Glenwood Hot Springs, Red Rocks, Rocky Mountain National Park, 16th Street Mall, Garden of the Gods

I would also take them by where I went to grad school(University of Denver) and show them around my local neighborhoods!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my family. My family has created a foundation for me to stand on through their ongoing support, prayer, guidance, and comfort. My family is made up of individuals who have used their actions to show me the importance of caring for my communities, determination, work ethic, and faith. My family has made me who I am today and I am eternally grateful for them!
