Meet Josh Ball | Photographer/ Filmmaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Ball and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought Process was that Its the only option I have. I found an intense passion for photography after travelling around Europe. It sparked something in me which lit me up and created the passion for storytelling in photos which then led to so many enjoyable experiences and allowed me to look at the world differently.
I knew its what I had to pursue to completely reach my full potential in creativity and in work. Nothing else I tried felt right. When I picked up the camera snd started to shoot.. It put me in flow state and everything else faded away. Thats when I knew I had to start a business and make this my job.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never used to consider myself as an artist. Though as things grow and I put out more and more work I realise everything I create is from what I envision in my mind. That is the core of creativity.
I got to where I am today mainly due to self belief. We have to believe we can achieve what we envision otherwise any reasonable human would quit.
I also would say four main pillars I have believed in that have got me here are Intuition, manifestation, self belief and hard work.
Intuition is a gut feeling. A sense of knowing what is best for us. I knew the creative path was for me when I picked up that camera and went all in. By manifesting it I thought about it every moment of the day. Manifestation does not happen without action. There needs to be massive action that compliments the thought. Know you are worthy of it and commit. Go all in and never look back. Hard work is possibly the most important. Nothing comes from being lazy. If this is your true passion then you will stop at nothing to make it happen, Hard work will come easy when you see the vision and believe in what is meant for you. Hard work is essential. Self belief is knowing it will come. Its convincing yourself that you will make it work and know that their will be failures, road blocks and mistakes along the way. Accept those failures and belief that failure is the most information rich data stream that exists. Use the information from that failure and then move on from that experience. Failure is an illusion. It is necessary to get you to the next achievement waiting around the corner.. and it will come. with intuition, manifestation, self belief and hard work. You can do anything someone else has done, but do it in your own way thats unique and feels right for you.
Lean into your own weirdness. That is how you find your style, your uniqueness, your voice. Embrace your personality and quirks as that is what makes you, you.
Focus on story telling. In photography you are selling an experience. Become an excellent story teller and the viewer will stop at your work and want to ask questions, be intrigued and feel something. thats the goal in my work.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I dont live in the city but I do live in a beautiful town. I would show them the coastline, the ocean, grab a coffee, taste incredible food around the south west of Western Australia.
I would spend most the time exploring the wine, breweries and food of the Margaret River region. I would take them surfing around Yallingup. I would take them out camping, I would do some activities like exploring caves and anything outdoors. I am inspired by the outdoors and anything thats adventurous.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give Emmett Sparling a shoutout. He is the man who inspired me to pursue photography and I immediately fell in love with his work and story telling when I saw it.
I would also love to mention Finn Beales, Andrew Kearns and Samuel Elkins, who were my biggest inspiration to story telling and style I thrive to pursue in my work.
