We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
The barbering industry is an industry that I’ve seen grow massively in the last 10 years when i first was introduced to it. That being said, one thing i believe that outsiders are unaware of about the industry is how tight knit the barbering community is globally. I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked in a few different places like Melbourne (Australia) , Chicago, Phoenix, Denver, Brisbane (Australia) and one thing I’ve noticed is that through social media and barbering events we are all connected somehow. There has been situations where barbers have seen my work online without ever meeting me before and us living in completely different cities and vice versa or situations where a barber has worked with someone I’ve also worked with in the past in a different part of the world. It’s amazing to see how we all support and inspire each other without even knowing we are doing it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Something that sets my art as a barber apart from others is the passion for detail i put behind every haircut and making sure i give my client exactly what they’re hoping for but adding my own touch that they can’t get anywhere else. What I’m most proud of is the fact that i chose a career where not once do i dread doing what i love. There’s not a single morning where i wake up not wanting to do what i do for a living. My journey hasn’t been easy to get to where i am today, it’s been years of education and repetition as it is for many different industries. Barbering is an industry that is always evolving with new trends, new equipment coming out constantly and adapting to them. One thing this industry has taught me is that consistency is the key to your success in this world. Consistency not only in the quality of your work but also consistently being there when your clients need you because there’s always someone as good as you or better waiting for their opportunity to turn a customer into a client. What id like for you all to take from my story as a barber is that everything you set out to be a goal can be reached through resilience and consistency.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to take a friend out for a drink has to be Federales.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of my success is owed to the people closest to me whom i love and appreciate. From both my parents Alberto & Guillermina Flores. My brother Jorge Flores, my mentors : Jorge Barajas, David Pizarro, Cristopher Sosa. My best friends : Francisco Mari and David Cesario who took a chance on me becoming a barber and supporting me through every step of my journey. And to all my clients and friends for the non stop support for the last 10 years.
