We had the good fortune of connecting with Judd Hoos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Judd, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
(andy young) – I grew up in a musical house. My dad is a drummer and singer but was also the strength & conditioning coach at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD where I grew up. We always had a rule in our house that we had to be both active in a team sport and take some kind of music lesson. I think pairing that with being a middle child and subconsciously competing with an older brother definitely pointed me on a path towards music. I remember the day my older brother brought home his first guitar, I would rush home after school to practice on it as long as I could until he got home. Eventually I got my own guitar as well and we would work together every night, learning Jimi Hendrix, Pearl Jam and Nirvana songs.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Judd Hoos’ goal has always been to bring people together. That’s what live music has always been about. Since the groups inception we’ve been focussed on crafting quality a high-energy live show. Almost to a fault, we’ve always reinvested in upgrading our live production elements to help us create a big rock concert environment no matter where we are playing. Being a touring act certainly has its challenges and sacrifices so I wouldn’t say that it’s easy. But we also understand that we are not conducting brain surgery and don’t take ourselves too seriously. Our goal is to try and bring people together in an inclusive environment, share our music and make people happy. Everything we’ve built to this point is off the labor of our touring operation. However, in the past few years we have directed a lot of our time, effort and resources to creating and releasing more music online to reach fans that live further away than our bus can take us in a day’s drive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Judd Hoos love 3 things, probably more but I’ll list 3. Great music, great food and create craft beer. Denver has no shortage of all these so it’s hard to go wrong just about anywhere you go.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
None of us would be doing what we’re doing without the love and support from our wives and families. The band has been around for sometime. We are extremely grateful to all previous band and crew members who helped us get to where we are today. Everyone from Bob Zwart, Drew Lerdal, Zach Fronce, Chris Hornick, Devin Bills, our current road crew, Dylan Juso, Cameron Crocker, Scott Gooch as well as all other former crew members. They all have their fingerprints on some aspect of the show to this day. I would also like to include our friend and producer J. Hall who has helped us enormously grow and develop as recording artists. He’s essentially a band member whether he knows it or not.
