We had the good fortune of connecting with Lakyn Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lakyn, why did you pursue a creative career?
Personally, I chose to pursue a career in photography (specifically wedding photography) because very early on in my life, I was introduced to and experienced just how important photographs actually are. I remember to this day some words a family member spoke to me after going through an old photo album together when I was around 12 years old. After we had finished looking through the album, we were sitting on the couch together and they told me that the only reason we know who these members of our family are is because of these photographs that were taken and passed down to the next generation as time went on.
The ability to freeze a moment in time stuck with me, and about two years later, my dad introduced me to his film camera and my passion just exploded from there.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a wedding and elopement photographer, currently based in Texas, Colorado and Tennessee (gotta love having a big family across the USA). I would say one of the things that set me apart from others is my pure, childlike excitement for others finding their true love and getting to say yes to forever. Nothing else gets me more pumped than love! I got to where I am today by cultivating the most incredible relationships with my clients and fully putting myself and my personality into my business. I have learned many lessons along the way, but I think the most important one that thankfully is gaining traction thanks to social media is that not every wedding ceremony or marriage has to come with a huge party. Just you and your partner is fine, too, and sometimes that’s the most beautiful.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a Rockies girl, so I would make them spend a few days out of the city before delving into everything it has to offer. Personally, I love the Downtown Aquarium and could spend a week in there just by itself. Safta is a personal favorite restaurant of mine for something fancy, but if I’m craving some bar food, I absolutely adore Highland Tap and Burger! For some fantastic nature in the city, I would bring them to Washington Park!
My mom deserves this shoutout. She has pushed me throughout the entire 11 years of my business to keep going when things get hard and to believe in myself when I’m not feeling confident. She is my biggest fan and greatest supporter of any wild idea that my crazy brain comes up with and I don’t think I would have kept this business going for so long if it was not for her support.
