We had the good fortune of connecting with Juli Deng and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juli, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve always known that the creative realm was where I belonged. From a young age, creativity seemed to rule my world. From dressing my barbie dolls to asking Santa for a sewing machine for Christmas, I just had an inner feeling that this was where I belonged. I’ve also never been happier than in front of my sewing machine, spending the days creating pieces that have now become a part of my first collection.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my namesake label, JULI DENG in 2020 during Covid. During that time, I had the chance to dive deep into my purpose in life. I realized that for years I’ve been ignoring my true passion and putting in on the back burner for the sake of a career elsewhere. Covid and lockdown put so much into perspective for me and my future. Personally, it was a very bitter-sweet time. When I started, I didn’t do much research into the numbers, data, market etc. I thought the best thing I could do was to start and learn on the way. Which is precisely what I did. This has come with MANY challenges. Included but not limited to a brand pause, a relaunch and more. But I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world. It has taught me so many lessons on my journey to becoming a successful and flourishing brand.

I believe that JULI DENG is a brand that embraces all aspects of life and people. It’s a brand that I created to provide pieces that make women feel beautiful and confident. Clothing is truly an expression of art and personality and I strive to bring that to the forefront of my brand. I want JULI DENG to make women feel beautiful and confident through the expression of COLOR!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My amazing partner, He is the person who pushed me and supported me every step of the way. He encourages me every day to keep going and reminds me that great things takes time. He constantly supports me and believes in me and my dreams, without him I’m not sure where I’d be. So here’s to V!
