We had the good fortune of connecting with Julian & Remy Fernandes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julian & Remy, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Providing readers with unique fiction, something that feels different than what you will find with bigger publishers, riskier stories in many ways. As well as providing opportunities for independent creators to give influence and style to an idea or story. Our paperbacks are also handmade by us, so the process is 100% in-house. If you want to support small business when you buy from us you support a business from the roots to the leaves.

Telling stories that speak to many readers in meaningful ways has always been important. At first it was about sharing said stories with our own voices. It took until the finalization of Avinon that we couldn’t ignore that the overall story arc of Earth’s Final Chapter was far greater than what any one character’s journey could convey, and thus greater than what can be told from the voice of just one author. Our decision to create Endless Ink Publishing House stemmed from the goal of bringing others in, so that we can be a sci-fi/fantasy series that is both approachable and which only exists through inclusivity. To date, the Earth’s Final Chapter series is comprised of twenty-five books (novellas, short stories, with bonus flash fictions) and contributions from thirty-five authors and thirty-three illustrators.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One of the biggest things that seperates us from other publishers would be the fact that all our books are handmade by us. We have a hand in every part of the process. It did take a few years for us to perfect the way we make our books, and the designs went through a few changes as we grew bigger, but I would put our product agains anyones and feel confident that we produce excellent quality books. It has not been easy, but creating something from nothing rarely is. Trial and error are the best teachers, and Julian did have some background working at a print shop, the years there gave us confidence we could produce high quality books. Endless Ink is a mom and pop size company, but our stories are made of big dreams and imagination. The authors and artists we work with deliver epic fiction that you won’t find anywhere else!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Denver Art Museum and Confluence Park are good places to start. Make sure to visit the echoing bowl found in the field, step inside, stand in the middle and whistle, sing or just listen to the sound of your own voice echoing back at you. Maybe tack on a hike in the foothills or a visit to Red Rocks, especially if they are coming from a place that doesn’t have many mountins. It is also never a bad idea to visit local comic shops or used bookstores in town, everyone can always use something to add to the TBR pile!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to the creative community we’ve found through social media, and to the wonderful and talented artist, writer and creative mind, Maria F Loscher, who recommended us for this interview. Maria has illustrated four different stories that we’ve had the pleasure of publishing, and continues to share beautiful art and positivity to our lives.
