Meet Julie Capranica | Dog Groomer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Capranica and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Julie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Mitch and I moved to Crawford just before the pandemic. We wanted to be a part of the community and serve in a way that would be helpful.
I started Jewels Senior Dog Rescue because I love Senior Dogs.
Because our dogs have special needs which are expensive, we had an aha moment. We opened our grooming business right here in the North Fork area, grooming dogs from Crawford, Paonia and Hotchkiss.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Mitch and I are both on long-term disability. I was a RN in hospice for over 30 years. I was diagnosed with MS one year after my graduation.
Mitch is a double lung transplant recipient in 2019.
When we moved here we longed to be involved in the community.
We decided the dog grooming would contribute a service not closely available.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In this area, we would definitely go to the Black Canyon. We would have coffee at Lazy J’s, visit the book store attached, go to Crawford Creative. Then we would go to Boardwalk Restaurant for lunch.
We would also visit the local souvenir shop where you could spend hours looking at all of the items there.
We would also visit the small shops and eateries in Paonia and Hotchkiss

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Mitch and I would love to dedicate our success to some of the women in Crawford who were first our en encouragers and our customers! As well, we dedicate our ongoing success to our faithful customers.
