We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaia Hofmeister and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Starting my own business was actually sort of an accident. I loved taking photos and my parents gave me a camera for my birthday a few years back. While I had fun with auto, I began playing with the settings and found that I could really change how photos look by using manual mode. From there, I began offering free photo sessions and offered to make free commercials for my jobs. Eventually, people began reaching out to me and it turned into a paying gig.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I spent a lot of time lost, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. I pushed off college for the longest time and spent my evenings getting hammered in bars, thinking one day it would click. And it didn’t. One day I had a wake up call. I decided I wanted to do better and accomplish things. I wanted to be somebody and have a purpose every day, feel appreciated instead of depressed. I registered for college, I got a second job, and started following my passions. Now I work two jobs, try to hit the gym every day, study full time at Colorado Mesa University, and still find time to run my videography & photography business on the side. I keep busy but I wouldn’t change it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh boy, the Western Slope has quite a few hidden gems. If I had some time to take a friend out, I would take them to the Grand Mesa for a camping trip. Connecting with nature is really therapeutic and there’s so much to see around here. As for Grand Junction, there’s farmers markets, live music, swimming at the potholes in Glade Park, breweries and wineries to explore! If I had to pick one I’d say Ramblebine Brewery for trivia night and to enjoy some local craft beer, they have some good sours. I’m a sucker for the outdoors and finding local gems, so that’s where I would recommend.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family was a big support when I decided to move to a new state and change my major multiple times, but they always cheered me on, so I really owe them and cherish them for that.
