We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlyn Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaitlyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My whole thought process of starting my own business was freedom for my life, achieving my long time goals and lastly to beat the intrusive thoughts in my mind that I could not do it.

I always knew I wanted to be my own boss and live the more ‘unconventional’ life. Going full time in photography was a dream of mine since I started my degree in photography in 2013, but as we always know life has it’s own way of working out, so that dream was put on the back burner which I explored other aspects of my life!

So the past seven years I have been working odd jobs, moving to new places and all the while trying to find a way to start my journey into becoming a full time in photography.

When we were a few months into 2020 I felt a shift of perspective realizing that things are always out of our control and if I don’t just take the leap into the life I always wanted, it would never happen.

So then came March 2021, I decided on a Sunday night after dreading having to go into an office yet again that the next morning that I was going to finally take the leap and put faith in my dream! So now, after years of being part time photographer, I was now officially KaitlynDiana Photography!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Being a wedding photographer is one of the most honoring jobs I can think of. It is such an intimate and humbling experience being able to capture the love of two people in the most intimate way and that is exactly what I want my work to reflect. I want the emotions and details of your life to be spilled through my camera and into images. I think what sets me apart from others is my pure form of connection I have with my clients. They trust me in so many ways and have helped me create this business authentically and from a place of love. I approach each session and wedding day with a clear and open mind meaning I don’t have any other intentions besides photographing what is in front of me and what I am feeling.

There is a constant excitement that I feel with my clients and this line of work that is indescribable. They are constantly lighting fires inside my belly that make me think outside the box and want to create moments that they will want to relive for a lifetime!

I would have to say my journey to get to where I am now professionally has been like many others, an absolute rollercoaster. By senior year I received my first ‘real’ camera from my Granny and I instantly fell in love. fast forward to I was getting ready to graduate high school and didn’t have a clue as to what I wanted to do after, so on a whim I applied to Colorado Mountain College’s Professional Photography program and got in!

This what only the beginning of a 7 year journey to where I am now. Is owning a small business easy, heck no. It is a lot of late night, tears of believing in failure and exhaustion. But man it is so worth it when you get to be with your clients and create epic moments.

Some of the biggest lessons I have learned as a small business owner are these;
– Trust your gut always. Never let someone convince you out of your dream because the expectation of failing is higher than success.
– Be kind to yourself. You are doing so good you have no idea. Just keep trusting the process and following your heart to the life you have always wanted for yourself.
and always
– Community over competition ALWAYS

My brand and my story only exist because of the clients that I have, there is no doubt in this world that I would not be able to be successful without the trust and companionship of those who hire me to tell their love stories! I want to be remembered as the one that made who feel as beautiful as you are, the one that is compassionate and driven and who would do anything to make sure you have the most wonderful images of your life. Looking back at the images we create together, I want you to be taken back to a day of happiness and love.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in Colorado you CANNOT go wrong with amazing sights, eateries or hang out spots.

First we would start the weekend at one of my favorite breakfast spots, Urban Egg and order their Oatmilk Chai and Tuscan Benedict (10/10). Then we would make our way to my favorite place ever Rocky Mountain National Park. Taking our time with the endless hiking trails. epic views, grab a quick bite and ice cream at Miyauchi’s Snack Bar in Grand Lake then head back over the pass to Fort Collins and grab a few beers at Odells Brewery.

The next day we would head to Denver to get a taste of the city life. Starting the day with the most epic Colorado brunch at Snooze Eatery. Then spend the day outside exploring LoDo and learning the fascinating history of Denver, Union Square. We could explore Avanti’s epic food selection, then head over to catch an epic sunset at at Rockies game.

This is the best part of Colorado, you can spend most your life like me exploring and yet every day can be a new adventure!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many aspects and people in my world that I could thank for my success. My family and friends have always been my biggest fans and were my confidence when I had none in myself or my business.

But I would have to give my shoutout to my mom.

All growing up she has been an entrepreneur and always strived to create a life of adventure and following her dreams. Any time I had an idea for my life, she backed it with everything she had. For all these years she has been pushing me towards becoming a full time photographer but always allowing me to go at my own pace. I would thank her everyday if I could for giving me the foundation to pursue my dream life.

I would also give credit to my brother who has given me praise since I was a kid and has pushed me to chase my dreams no marker what obstacles come in my way.
