We had the good fortune of connecting with Kandace Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kandace, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
As a single mom it was very hard trying to obtain work life balance. Always working 40+ hours a week, trying my hardest to make being a Mom my number one priority. But some days working and school swallowed me. I feel like I missed a lot of important things with my children in their younger years. Over time life has had some uncertainties, but I’m grateful. I’m more present and living in the moment. Balance can be tricky, one minute you think you’ve got everything evenly distributed. Then boom! You realize you’ve fallen short somewhere. Life has a way of making you get balance one way or another. So lately I’ve been choosing to do things that make me feel a peace and evenly distributed.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started my business Pieces of Kandy in February 2023. What makes me most proud is that I started it. I got out of my head and I’m going for something that I want, something that brings me peace, something that I truly enjoy doing. I’m just getting started and nothing is easy. As far as setting myself apart from other Baker’s/ Business owner’s is that I’m open and honest. I’m here for feedback and advice. I want the world to know that I never gave up and that I’m striving to be better not only for me but for my children.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First we have to stop by Nina’s. Love Tribe Hair in Culver City, CA. Nina is my favorite and all my friends have to meet her. Then the beach is definitely a go to of mine, I love to lay out and soak up the sun. For those who partake we make a stop and get a lil dispensary action. Find some good food and catch a vibe. Some of my favorite food spots in LA are Joey’s, Bacari’s in Silver Lake and a new found favorite that I visited for my birthday is Crossroads. Then is always a vibe chilling at Chungy’s crib with good food, people and games.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give God a shout out! He’s brought me so far and kept me here. He’s provided me with a great support system and Tribe. My mother and father have been there for me every step of the way. A shout to my boys for loving me and allowing to not be perfect all the time and just accepting me for who I am at all times. To my friends, I love you all. I’m truly grateful and blessed.
