Meet Karen Fournier

Today we’re excited to be connecting with Karen Fournier again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Karen, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
For 17 years, I’ve produced videos for businesses and nonprofits in Northern Colorado. I am a multi=award winning creator, having won 4 Telly Awards and 2 Davey Awards in my career, mainly in the nonprofit documentary realm. I’ve loved my clients and the ability to tell their stories. It’s been an incredible journey.

Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Today, as a friend put it, I am entering more of my “wisdom phase.” This means I’m doing less on-the-ground work (such as live-event filming), and much more consulting work. These days, I am helping others to create educational content. This work pulls together the varying skillsets I’ve developed though my work not only as an excellent scriptwriter and videographer but also as a teacher and researcher in my earlier days. I bring an umbrella approach to the ideas of others to help them shape their brilliance into online courses, membership groups, add-on material for consulting, training programs, apps, and more.
I call this new branch “Octopus Tamer Consulting.” Basically, I’m taking other people’s brilliance and shaping it up into a form that is more digestible for their audience – and monetizable for themselves. Here, I play the role of the objective outsider to help them pull it all together. It’s been a refreshing change to shift my focus a bit! It’s exciting to see things come to life. It brings together my passion for helping others through the lens of education, which has been a core value of every career I’ve ever had.
We have now arrived at one of our favorite parts of the interview – the lightning round. We’ll ask you a few quick questions to give us all some fun insights about you.

Favorite TV Show: King of Queens
Favorite Band or Artist: U2
Mountains or Beach: both!
Favorite Sport (to watch): tennis
Favorite Sport (to play): tennis
Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): tennis, softball
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: a teacher – and I was, for 12 years, until I had kids, then I developed my video production business
Favorite Childhood movie: not a movie, but I loved Little House on the Prairie – the perfect blend of storytelling in every way
When you look back on your life, what are three things you expect to be proud of?
What I am most proud of looking behind me…first, is the positivity, hopefulness and tenacity that I have shown in the face of very daunting circumstances that I’ve faced in my lifetime. Second, I am proud of the integrity that I’ve brought to everything I’ve done in my career and the kindness I’ve shown to all I’ve worked with. Finally, and most importantly, I am proud of my three young adults, who have grown to be compassionate, loving humans I adore to no end. They will be the greatest legacy of my life.
