We had the good fortune of connecting with Karie McLain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karie, how does your business help the community?
Real estate is so much more than buying or selling a home—it’s about guiding people through major life changes, often during emotional times. Sometimes, a move represents an exciting new beginning, but other times, it follows a loss, a divorce, or other challenges. I see it as my job to be there for my clients, not only as an expert but as someone who truly cares. I want to make their journey as smooth as possible, easing the stress and giving them confidence that they’re in good hands.
Here in Colorado Springs and Monument, I feel incredibly lucky to work in vibrant communities. I love introducing my clients to the area’s unique businesses, local events, and everything that makes this place feel like home. So many of my clients end up becoming lifelong friends, and it’s a joy to be their trusted real estate advisor for years to come.
For me, it’s always been about “community over competition.” Supporting local businesses, participating in community events, and building genuine relationships are all part of that. I believe that when we lift each other up, everyone benefits. Real estate is just one piece of the puzzle; what really matters is creating a community where people feel supported and at home, not just in their houses but in every aspect of their lives.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Karie McLain Homes is all about creating an elevated experience in real estate. What sets us apart is our commitment to providing concierge-level service, especially for busy professionals who need someone they can fully trust to manage every detail seamlessly. I understand that buying or selling a home is a big milestone, and my goal is to make the entire process as smooth, transparent, and rewarding as possible.
I’m especially proud of the strong relationships I’ve built with my clients. Many of them have become lifelong friends, and that’s incredibly rewarding. I want every client to feel seen, heard, and fully supported. Real estate is personal, and I believe every transaction should feel that way.
But getting here hasn’t been easy. Building a business from the ground up came with plenty of challenges—like balancing work with family life, learning to market myself, and staying resilient through market shifts. I’ve had to be disciplined, especially as a single agent without a team, to ensure that every client receives the same high level of care. I’ve leaned heavily on systems, automation, and consistent routines to keep things running smoothly.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience. The real estate journey is a rollercoaster, and I remind myself that I’m just the rollercoaster operator, here to guide clients through all the highs and lows. Another lesson? Embrace the power of community. My relationships with other real estate professionals, both locally and across the country, have not only pushed me to grow but have also allowed me to serve my clients at a higher level.
What I want the world to know is that I didn’t start in real estate with family connections or a pre-built network. I built this business from scratch, and I’m passionate about giving my clients the kind of experience I wish I’d had in my first home-buying journey. Every decision, from how I communicate with clients to the systems I implement, is about creating a stress-free, supportive experience that empowers people to make the best choices for their future. I’m incredibly proud of the brand I’ve built, and I’m committed to raising the bar every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to show a friend around, I’d hit a few highlights to capture the best of Colorado Springs and Monument:
We’d start with a stroll through downtown Colorado Springs—there’s always something new, with thriving local restaurants, cool hotspots, and unique boutiques. A trip to the top of Pikes Peak would be next. Seriously, how do those donuts stay soft at that altitude, only to turn to rocks when you bring them down here? We’d then take a scenic drive through Garden of the Gods, where the red rock formations are just breathtaking.
A visit to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo would be a must—there’s nothing quite like it on a mountainside, and we’d wrap up the day with a casual dinner at 503W, known for its creative menu and craft beers.
In Monument, we’d hike Monument Rock, a fantastic, family-friendly trail, and then head over to La Casa Fiesta for tacos and margaritas on their outdoor patio. For a unique sip, we’d check out 300 Days of Shine and sample some locally made moonshine. And I’d never let them leave without grabbing lunch at Shuga’s—just one of those cozy places that makes you feel right at home.
That mix of adventures, good food, and local charm is exactly what I love about this area!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I love this question because none of us get where we are on our own. If I had to give a shoutout, it would start with my family and my dad, who instilled in me a drive to go after big goals and never settle. He always believed I was capable of more, and his encouragement shaped who I am today. That mindset has been key in my business, pushing me to work hard, stay resilient, and aim for excellence.
My family deserves so much credit. They were the ones who encouraged me to transition into real estate after years on the lending side, believing I could make an even greater impact. They’ve put up with my laptop being open on family vacations, trips to Costco, you name it—because they understand how much this role means to me and how important it is to be there for clients during big life transitions.
Their patience, support, and understanding mean the world to me. They’re the absolute best, and I couldn’t do this without them.
And to my real estate besties—having friends in this industry across the country has been such an unexpected gift. I had no idea that connecting with other agents nationwide would push us all to serve at higher levels and bring out the best in each of us. We support each other, share insights, and hold each other accountable, which has been invaluable. Knowing that we’re all out there, lifting each other up and learning together, is something I’m incredibly grateful for.
