Meet Whitney Bradberry | Freelancer Marketing Strategist & Vacation Rental Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Bradberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Whitney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I am proud of the risks I have taken in my life. From leaving my family to move to Colorado to going freelance to buying a little a-frame cabin in the woods to turn into a vacation rental—I have always believed in following passions, even if that comes with some risk. In my experience, the more risks you take, the more you learn about yourself, and the easier it becomes to get comfortable with discomfort.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career really began in 2016 at a national nonprofit. What started as a freelance position became a full-time content and storytelling position developed just for me. I worked my way up to Marketing Director before leaving in 2020 to pursue freelancing. While I’m grateful for my opportunities, growing up in a company has its challenges. Some people will always see you as you were when you walked in the door. As a result, I worked hard to grow professionally through outside leadership courses, mentorships, conferences, and podcasts. I consider myself a lifelong learner. The marketing field is ever-changing, and the same is true for becoming a better leader. Over the seven years I worked with a nonprofit, my biggest takeaway has always been starting with your why. Today I only work with clients and companies who can express their “why” to me, because without that, it’s tough to tell your story to consumers in a meaningful and authentic way. My vacation home follows the same approach, guests come first. They are my “why.” Every decision I make, from the design to my hosting, is based on the people I’m serving.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a vacation rental host, I play tour guide quite often. Right now when someone is headed to Denver, I always tell them my favorite restaurant is Wildflower. Anytime I have family visiting I always take them to the RiNo district—it feels like the most authentic Denver experience, and you’re sure to find a good cocktail nearby. Outside of the city, I’m always playing outdoors, so if you come to visit me, I will probably force you to go for a hike with me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s hard to pin down just one person who took chances on me and encouraged or mentored me, but I think it’s important to shout out Vickie Hormuth, the executive director of The American Insitute for Avalanche Research and Education. I’ve always seen her as an incredible leader who puts people first. Her friendship and mentorship have helped me rise above complex work challenges and develop my leadership skills.
