Hi Karine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When asked about the inspiration behind starting my business, Game Changer by Karine, I reflected on my childhood. Board games were a central part of my family life. Every Sunday afternoon, despite my mother’s demanding work schedule, we would gather and immerse ourselves in various games. These moments were special, fostering joy and connection among us. Even during family reunions, card games were always a staple, creating cherished memories.

I founded Game Changer by Karine to share this joy with others. Many people struggle to find engaging activities during family visits or seek new experiences. In our consumer-driven society, we often buy items that end up unused on shelves. By offering game rentals, I provide a way for people to try new games without the commitment of purchasing them, ensuring they enjoy the experience without accumulating more possessions. This approach not only brings families and friends together but also promotes mindful consumption.

Additionally, Game Changer by Karine has grown into an influencer platform on social media. I use this platform to showcase new and exciting games, share tips for game nights, and build a community of game enthusiasts. Through my social media presence, I inspire and connect with people who love games as much as I do, further spreading the joy and benefits of gaming.

Game Changer by Karine is not just a business but a passion project that stems from my lifelong love for board games. What sets me apart is my commitment to fostering joy and connection through gaming while promoting mindful consumption through my rental services.

I am proud of creating a platform where people can explore new games without the pressure of ownership. It’s fulfilling to see families and friends come together over a shared game, creating memories much like those from my own childhood.
Additionally, I’m starting to help small publishers gain more visibility online, and I would like to continue this work. I am deeply impressed by individuals who pursue their passions with such courage, and I admire their dedication. I want to support these publishers and help them succeed.

Professionally, my path has been unconventional. Starting as a podiatrist in France, I transitioned through different careers due to relocations with my wife. From running my own practice to becoming a French teacher, each change presented challenges, but also opportunities for growth.

It hasn’t been easy. Adapting to new cultures and professions required resilience and a willingness to learn. Overcoming these challenges involved staying true to my passions and leveraging each experience as a learning opportunity.

Through it all, I’ve learned the importance of authenticity and perseverance. My journey has taught me that following your passion, even when it leads to unexpected places, can lead to meaningful outcomes.

Game Changer by Karine is more than a business; it’s a reflection of my values of inclusivity and community. I want the world to know that my brand is about more than just board games; it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and connected. Whether through rentals, my support for small publishers, or my social media presence, I aim to inspire joy and celebrate the diversity of gaming enthusiasts worldwide.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends visit, we often start with a hike at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, where the trails cater to all skill levels and offer breathtaking views. Afterward, we enjoy a satisfying lunch at The Chicken Post, soaking in the local atmosphere.

Exploring the outdoors is a big part of our time together, so we might venture to other scenic hikes like those in Estes Park or Saint Mary’s Glacier. Each hike in our area offers its own unique beauty and adventure.

To reminisce about our time in Asia, we indulge in delicious Hong Kong BBQ from Uncle Henry’s, which never fails to bring back fond memories. Or maybe some authentic Vietnamese sandwiches from Paris Banh Mi, appreciating the culinary diversity our area offers.

Throughout the week, we mix in visits to local attractions and favorite hangouts, ensuring a well-rounded experience that showcases the natural beauty and vibrant dining scene of our region.

In reflecting on my journey, I want to dedicate a special shoutout to my wife. Her unwavering support, encouragement, and assistance with all my ideas have been invaluable. She has been a constant source of strength and inspiration, helping me navigate the challenges and celebrate the successes. Without her, Game Changer by Karine wouldn’t be where it is today. Her belief in me has been the driving forces behind this venture. She truly deserves recognition for her role in this story.
