Meet Katherine Heaton | Owner, Katherine Heaton Photography and Real Estate Video Co.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Heaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katherine, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is something I’m constantly striving for, as a mom of three kids under the age of 6 and being married to an Army member who is currently deployed I have to make sure that I am both able to help provide for my family and be there for my kiddos. I try my best to work while they are at school or taking naps, as they continue to grow I have to continue adapting my work schedule.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up loving photography, I guess you can say it runs in my blood. My great-grandfather was a photographer, artist, and poet in his country. While growing up I really felt that creativity channel through me and I fell in love with photography. I came to this country at an early age, I learned a new language, I went through school, I attended college, I did a mission service for my church. All these experiences allowed me to see just how important it is to remember the little things. The good, the bad, and the extraordinary.
As I matured, married a Soldier, and had kids of my own that belief really solidified. I became aware of the absolute need to capture real-life. I began my career as a photographer with one thing in mind, capturing families in a genuine light–not just the perfect smiles and the perfect hair, but truly capturing the essence of each family unit. Families come in all shapes, sizes, beliefs, backgrounds, etc. I want to depict each family honestly and true to who they are.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have absolutely loved living in Colorado. I would start the day with a roadtrip through Woodland Park and get some homemade donuts, spend time in Manitou Springs walking the shops and stopping at the biggest arcade i’ve ever seen! I would drive to Old Town Colorado Springs and walk through Michael Garman’s Magic Town museum (a DEFINITE MUST SEE). I would end the evening at Whiskey Barron’s saloon in the Springs for some country dancing and a good time!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out would definitely have to go to my biggest supporter, my husband. He carries his weight in the parenting process, we are a team and I absolutely love it. I am grateful that he is willing to not only support me but to push me to be better. He believes in me when I don’t and is quick to say “I got this, you go”.
