Meet Kathryn Kurtz | Owner & Lead Designer at K Squared Design Studio

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathryn Kurtz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathryn, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe in the power of relationships. Residential Interior Design is a high-touch experience when delving in to the needs of a homeowner. Having a focus on providing a clear experience and building trusting relationships with clients, vendors and trades is essential to the success of my studio.

What should our readers know about your business?
At K Squared Design Studio we have a very clear process to lead a homeowner through the design in order to create a design solution that feels authentic to them.. Our process allows plenty of room to dream and also has a clear timeline and goals so the homeowner always knows that to expect next. We are a very creative and a very technical studio. We have vast knowledge of home construction, materials, furniture and decor. We pride ourselves on making a space function before we can make it beautiful and love that our designs change the way a client interacts with their home making their daily lives easier and more joyful.
I am where I am today through being open to learning… understanding it is a vital part of growth in life and in business. Being able to course correct when something isn’t working in your business is essential. I also have lots of industry peers that help to satiate endless detailed questions about the nuisances of design, construction and business. I try to be vulnerable and open and see mis-steps as opportunities for learning and growth.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in Fort Collins are:
The Lyric. The theater is so unique in environment and activity. The have a great outdoor movie series in the summer, support local musicians and artists. The embrace the quirky and the fun and all are welcome.
The Emporium/ Elizabeth Hotel/ Magic Rat. This restaurant has such a unique feel and a great vibe. The food and wine is wonderful and the environment is just beautiful and approach-ably chic.
Hopefully friends can visit during FOCO MX which is my favorite event in Fort Collins. I haven’t experienced anything like it. It happens right when the weather starts to warm and people are so ready to be outdoors. The energy in this town comes alive as people wander from venue to venue experiencing new music and running into old friends.
Horsetooth and Lory State Park. Great place for biking, hiking and being one with the outdoors.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The Interior Design and construction community in Northern Colorado is increasingly more collaborative. I have had endless chats, meetings, collaborations with local peers, trades and builders. The amount of information that a designer navigates in our industry is vast and I have relied on industry peers to round out my knowledge about misc. design/ and construction details and the nuisances of the business.
My clients… I have the most fun, loving and conscientious clients and I am so grateful to each and everyone on them for trusting my studio to make an impact on their lives.
My family… My husband has always been supportive and never once doubted the success of what I have built. My kiddos for being big fans and for being proud and curious.
My team. Our studio is growing and my team is talented and loving and I’m so glad to have them.
