We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After having my children and deciding to stay home with them I soon realized my desire for photography. Capturing their expressions, moments and milestones became a new world for me to explore, and I soon discovered an untapped passion. That passion grew and became an obsession where I started taking classes on photography, going to workshops, buying all the best equipment, and learning as much as I could about this skill. From here, I started photographing my friends and their families and officially started my own portrait photography business. I am a Lifestyle Family Portrait Photographer who specializes in outdoor, natural light photography for couples and families. I enjoy making connections with fellow women and mamas and my goal is to help them feel comfortable and beautiful in front of the camera.

What should our readers know about your business?
I have a background as an elementary school teacher (this is before kids) and I have always loved working with people, especially children and high school seniors. Something that sets me apart from many photographers is that I’m able to make my clients feel comfortable and confident from our first interaction to delivering the final product. I like to have fun and joke around a lot throughout the photoshoot. This helps me to get genuine smiles and authentic portraits. If you look at my reviews, most of them will be about how much fun they had at their session with me and how much they truly love the portraits. Making memories and looking back on them with joy is what it’s all about!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We live in the best state!! Colorado is so beautiful and there are so many fun things to do. One of my favorite places to go is up to Estes Park, it is such a cute town. I can also access Rocky Mountain National Park easily where I love to do my photoshoots with the gorgeous mountains in the background. But if I’m not there for a photoshoot, I like to hike around and explore the park. There are many trials and animals to see as well. After a day of hiking and exploring I like to go back into Estes Park and eat at Twin Owls Steakhouse. They have the best food and the views are spectacular.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The success of my small business is mostly to my husband Tim!! He has been so encouraging since day 1 of me starting my business. I can’t even count the number of hours he spent researching the best equipment and cameras for me to use and any time I needed help figuring out the technology side of things or making business decisions he has been there. So much that goes into the behind the scenes with photography and I wouldn’t have the business that I do without his love, support, and encouragement. So, big Shout Out to Tim Brennan!!
