Meet Katie Burrell | VP, COO & Co-Founder, PufCreativ

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Burrell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I think risk is inevitable; with any decisions we make, we can never really know what lies ahead of us. Risk doesn’t have to be a bad thing; risk can also result in the best decision you’ve ever made. So instead of thinking of a choice or venture as a risk, I like to think of it as an opportunity. Some would say I took a risk by pursuing a career in the cannabis industry, and sure I did because there’s so much unknown in the cannabis space. But to me that is where there is a chance to do something great, something unique, something unheard of. How many people are willing to do that? Taking a risk back in 2017 led me to 5 years of owning an award-winning cannabis digital marketing agency. Even to this day connections I’ve made in other industries are afraid to partner up with anything involving cannabis because of the “risk” and I bet you in a few years they will be knocking at the industry’s door.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
PufCreativ is an award-winning, full-service cannabis cannabis marketing agency. Going on our 6th year of delivering quality marketing and brand development, our passionate team of creatives is proudly dedicated to creating custom solutions and advertising strategies for each and every one of our adored clients. We are community-focused and enthusiastic in our efforts to bring each brand’s vision to life, while establishing a positive reputation and bright light within the cannabis industry.

I think that it is important to break stigmas in the cannabis space and bring light and love into what we do as a community. Through our network of community partners that we support and work with we are not only devoted to making a difference for the plant but also for our clients and for the future of the cannabis industry. We co-founded Cannabis Creative Movement, an educational guidebook series designed to inform on key issues while providing fundraising opportunities for nonprofits focused on those concerns.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh fun!! PufCreativ is based out of Denver, but I currently live in Philadelphia. If my best friend and I visited Denver together here are few places i’ve been to in Colorado that i’d take them to. I love love going to the Denver Central Market for brunch, coffee and a nice work sesh. Some of my favorite lunch spots are Union Station which has an awesome atmosphere and history and Olive & Finch where I love to grab a beer and bite to eat. Some great spots to visit is Red Rocks for the view or a show, or on a hike at either maroon Bells or Snowmass. For dinner I love Blue Sushi Sake Grill, sushi is my absolute favorite and Safta Restaurant which serves my second favorite food, Middle Eastern! And last but not least for a fun night out I love either a low key Top Golf hangout or VYBE for dancing and drinks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my girlfriend Chelle Winn; my family, and my team at PufCreativ. I’ve struggled a lot throughout my life with mental health and self-confidence, personally and professionally. In recent years my girlfriend has been my biggest cheerleader (literally); she’s taught me how to love myself and others unconditionally, how to not take anything too seriously, and how to accept and grow into the human I’ve always wanted to be.

Throughout my life my family has supported me through my ups and downs and through my out-of-the box career pursuit. I am extremely grateful to have them by my side. And last but not least, my team and partners at PufCreativ have not only been an absolute pleasure to work with, but they literally have helped shape and mentor me into the entrepreneur and designer I am today.
