We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Taft and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been a creative person with a passion for helping others. Starting my own business has given me the opportunity to do that in a way that’s meaningful and exciting for me. I never wanted to be a designer for another company; I do my best work when I’m staying true to my style and creating things that I would wear myself, and helping other’s find their authentic style. Everything I do for my business is done with pride and a genuine love for those who support me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a multifaceted business so between styling and designing, I love always having something new to work on. Some days I’m helping my clients curate their dream wardrobes, and others I’m designing and tailoring to make sure their clothes fit perfectly. I love teaching people how to express themselves through their style, and why that matters. I focus on maintaining each individual’s authenticity and elevating it, not diluting it. I don’t do the things I think most people assume a stylist would do; I won’t give you a long list of fashion rules, I won’t throw out everything in your closet, and I don’t push boring capsule wardrobes. Instead, I guide people in learning what looks good on them and give them the freedom to express their authenticity in a way that works for their lifestyle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay so when I go on vacation my goal is to be slightly embarrassed by how much I eat and drink. I don’t mess around with that! I love a good beer garden and Mexican food. I’m not super outdoorsy but a morning hike to see the views is always fun. We would catch a show at Red Rocks, hit the hot springs, and of course go shopping at the gorgeous boutiques in Cherry Creek.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are SO many people who deserve a novel written to thank them for the impact they have had on my career. My lifelong best friends, husband, and family all totally rock and believe in me so fiercely. I would also like to shoutout the ladies in my book club. What started out as a fun “let’s get together for a fun little talk about a business book” has turned into some of my best friends, greatest supporters, and a kickass powerhouse of knowledge and experience.
