We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophia Reineke and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophia, what matters most to you?
“To each their own.” When it comes to health and wellness, many social media outlets and personas like to portray a one-size fits all approach to their followers as to how to reach their goals. But in my eyes, the truth is that there is no right or wrong way to be healthy. The structured programs, the intense restrictions, and the strict time frames aren’t necessarily the most reasonable and fun approach if one seeks to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Each body is unique and should be treated as so. What works well for one person, may not be the best option for the next. This is true when it comes to diet, movement, spiritual practice, and so on. The beauty is that you have the ability to listen to how your body responds to external stimuli and use the knowledge gained from those bodily experiences, whether they be good or bad, and decide how to recreate or limit such experiences in the future. It is empowering to understand your body and decide for yourself what serves you.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
While most health and wellness companies emphasize a structured “do-as-I-say” type program, I prioritize personal health and nutrition. I’m a firm believer in the “to each their own” approach. Through this strive to help others discover what suits them when it comes to diet, movement, hobbies, spiritual practice, and so on! No two bodies are the same. Coming to terms and accepting who you are both inside and out is the first step in becoming the best version of yourself. By becoming the person I needed to be for myself when I was younger, that kinder, more patient, and more uplifting part of myself, I have really feel like I have reached my goal. Now it is time for me to help others to do the same.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whew! Hard to say what the ideal day in CO would be. This state has so much to offer! The best day I could imagine would start off with an early morning drive to the Flat Tops to hike Devil’s Causeway. The adrenaline rush you get when crossing the causeway is truly out of this world; plus the views the causeway provides from both sides are beyond breathtaking. No matter how many times I hike it, it leaves me speechless every time. Then after admiring the scenery, I would suggest trail running back down. Trail running is a great way to open your mind and explore all the thoughts and ideas in the back of your head that maybe you forgot about. It can be an enlightening experience. Now that were back at the trail head, it is time to head back home and go grab some brunch on the patio at Yampa Valley Kitchen. Whatever is in season, that’s the best option!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Growing up as a competitive sailor, I was always drawn to health, nutrition, and fitness. However, my relationship with athletics was definitely a bumpy road filled with many highs and lows. When I got to college, I started questioning whether or not I even wanted to continue competing. The weight requirements, intense workout programs, hours of practice, the perpetual feeling of exhaustion, traveling every weekend… I felt like I never really had the ability to do what I wanted with such a demanding schedule. However, just before my senior year I took a gap year since COVID-19 put a pause on a majority of college sports; it was this year that I discovered the joy in listening to your body and doing what is best for you on your own time. through enrolling at the Integrative Institute of Nutrition (IIN). With their knowledge and guidance, not only was I able to find my own internal joy, but also help others start finding theirs. We are all striving to become the best versions of ourselves, but we can’t get there on our own. Through becoming a health coach I have been able to offer people the support and accountability they need to become their authentic selves; and that to me is the most rewarding part.
