We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayd Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayd, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business because I have a passion and true calling for photography. Photography is a dream job for me. There isn’t a single aspect of it that I don’t love. One benefit of owning my own business is that I am able to make my own schedule. My babes are homeschooled so this is very imortant to me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say what sets me apart from others in my profession is my true love for what I do. I also try to take creative breaks for things like creating styled shoots, model calls or taking my own kids out for creative sessions. I LOVE connecting with families, couples, etc. that I work with and leaving their session on cloud 9 because we connected so well. Photography is an overly saturated and very competitive industry. So no, nothing about running my business is very easy. I try and set myself apart with a unique editing style, true connections with my clients, excellent customer service and attention to details in every session. My main mission is to serve the clients I work with and deliver timeless images that will be cherished forever. Aaron Siskind said it best, “Photograpphy is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things long after you’ve forgotten.”

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our first stop would be for dinner at stonehouse in Montrose. Not only do they have amazing food but customer service is amazing there as well. Black canyon of the Gunnison. would be our next stop. It’s an amazing sight to see for a flatlande like me. A trip to the San Juan mountain trails on side by sides would be a definite yes as well. The sheer drop of’s, beautiful wild flower filled back country and high elevation riding makes for a beautiful and exhilarating trip! Maggies is always a great stop for lunch or dinner after riding in the mountains all day. Their 420 burger is like no other burger! I think we would end the day with some “girl time” at SOAK in Montrose. SOAK is a full service spa that also has float tanks. The owner is an amazing person with a super work ethic. You know that every single time you go in, your experience will be nothing but the best! A float right before heading home for bed will give you the best sleep and is a relaxing way to end the day.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family was my main focus when starting and running my business. I mean my entire family. Friends too. They have all shown up for me and supported me since the very beginning. I would not be successful without their love, shares, prayers and support. I really just stepped out in faith and they were there to support me and hold me up.
