We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaydannielle Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kaydannielle, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
My name is Kaydannielle Smith. I am a mother to a 10 year old boy and 3 year old daughter. I’m from New York City, but my family heritage is Jamaican. I moved to Colorado in March of 2014. I wanted a change of scenery and to provide a better life for my son. I had my son when I was 20 years old and because of him; I wanted to be a better me. I made a promise to myself that by the time he turned 5 years old we would be out of New York. We moved to Colorado when he was 3 years old. Being from New York City we are taught if you can make it in New York, you could make it anywhere and I believe that 100%. The lifestyle in New York is so fast paced and competitive which helped push me to be the best version of myself. New York will always hold a special place in my heart. However, Colorado tested my faith and independence. Since moving to Colorado I went back to school to obtain my Master’s degree in Criminology with a concentration in Human Behavior and Cyber Security. Although, I love what I studied in school my passion has always been cooking and making my own seasonings blends and recipes; which lead my to start my brand Flawless Flavor LLC in December of 2020.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m 2020, I decided to take my health more seriously and wanted healthier and flavorful seasonings to cook with that did not have any preservatives, fillers, msg, natural flavors and low sodium. I decided to take my previous seasonings blends I created and get high quality ingredients to make them myself. I sent out my creatives to family and friends and once they tried them they told me how delicious they were and that I was on to something. I got numerous remarks that my seasonings smells amazing and doesn’t taste like anything on the market. Those responses pushed me to launch my business to allow the world to taste my creations. At Flawless Flavor we make healthy seasonings taste good. The road to entrepreneurship has been amazing. Of course there are ups and downs but I’m enjoying the ride. Nothing worth it is ever easy but I can guarantee you it’s worth it. I have learned that people like to know the face behind the brand and it’s ok to open up and share your successes and loses. It makes you more relatable and your customers will feel personally connected to you. To any aspiring entrepreneurs I would advise you to just go for it and be yourself because no is you and that is what will set your apart from your competitors.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friends visit me in Colorado we definitely go on a hike to get a beautiful view of Colorado. One of my favorite places to hike is Rocky Mountain National Park. Being a foodie of course we would go eat at some of my favorite places like Perry’s Steak house, Rioja, Guard and Grace, Linger, Ocean Prime and Elway’s Downtown. The Denver art district downtown is also an amazing area to eat at local restaurants and take pictures by the beautiful morals that are painted by local artist and changes monthly. If it’s during the winter months going to visit Vail or Breckinridge is a must for some awesome snow fun filled activities.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to recognize my husband Christopher, our children and my amazing mother-in-love without their support and encouraging words I don’t know where I would be. The love from my children gives me the drive to fight past any storm. The love and attention from my husband reassures me that through every up or down he will be there cheering me on and listening to me vent even if it’s 3am lol. Last but not least, my beautiful mother-in-love always level out my thinking process with encouraging words. As a successful entrepreneur herself, her guidance I am most grateful for.
