Meet Kayla Santiago | Hairstylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Santiago and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I was eighteen years old when I decided to pursue a career as a hairdresser. Life at a young age taught me the potential to unlock new realms of creativity and change. The form of every snip and stroke of color being able to hold the potential to transform not just looks but lives is a beautiful art.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Moving from my hometown Chicago to Denver Colorado was the most challenging risk not only emotionally but mentally. The thought of having to start brand new and lose the clientele that took 4 years to build was stressful. I don’t just do a service for my clients, I provide a full guided experience whether it’s a soft or bold change that will have them leaving more confident. This industry is constantly changing but one thing that remains the same is loyalty. Be loyal to the ones who have been loyal to you, whether it being clients, coworkers, or associates. Moving out is not for the weak but with the love and passion you have for this industry, you’ll only regret it if you don’t make it happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Start the week off by going to bottomless brunch at Tamayo then headed to either a Rockies game or a walk around Union Staion. Next day following any and all Farmers Market from Highlands Ranch to a classic on Pearl Street-make sure you get Kream Kimchi. The weekdays are my personal favorite to try cuisines around the globe at the food halls (Edgewater Public Market, Stanley Marketplace, and Zeppelin Station) and end the week with some paddleboarding and barbecuing at Chatfield State Park.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One person who has supported me in all aspects of life is my best friend, Amanda Kindred. We met during beauty school, worked at the same salon, opened a business together, she supported my move to Denver, encouraged me to apply to my dream job (where I currently work) and continues to inspire me even though we are thousands of miles away.
