Meet Kayla Zahler | ISR and private swim instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Zahler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My journey into entrepreneurship began with a passion for water safety. I chose to become a private swim instructor after noticing how little progress was made in swim schools, and I quickly realized how crucial early water safety education is for children. Becoming certified as an infant survival swim instructor through ISR (infant swimming resources) was a natural step for me. It’s about more than just teaching swimming; it’s about empowering parents and ensuring that even the youngest swimmers have the skills to survive unexpected situations.”

What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart is my commitment to personalized, one-on-one instruction rather than the typical group setting of most swim schools. I begin by teaching essential water survival skills, ensuring that every student builds a strong, life-saving foundation. Once they’ve mastered survival techniques, I leverage my certification to guide them through learning proper strokes and skills, ultimately boosting their confidence and overall safety in the water.
There is limited access to this program so me becoming an ISR instructor, allows the growing community to participate in our self rescue skills.
I’m most proud of my personal journey and the growth I’ve achieved along the way. Moving from Maine as a stay-at-home mom of two beautiful girls, I took a leap of faith to pursue my passion for swim instruction. I developed my skills and earned my certifications on my own, often sacrificing free time and adjusting our family schedule to balance work and home life. Every challenge has strengthened me, and knowing that I can support my family now and in the years to come fills me with immense pride and happiness.
I want the world to know that this isn’t just a business—it’s a passion that I’ve discovered in adulthood. I truly love watching kids grow and learn such amazing skills in the water. Every lesson is an opportunity to build confidence and foster safety, while also creating deep connections with families and the community. My work goes beyond teaching swimming; it’s about nurturing a supportive environment that enriches lives, one stroke at a time.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado offers such a diverse range of views and landscapes that there’s truly something for everyone. I love taking friends to Colorado Springs, where we can explore the breathtaking Garden of the Gods, the unique Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre. And when it comes to experiencing the mountains, Breckenridge and Frisco are my top go-tos—the snowy landscapes and mountain adventures there are unlike anything you’ll see elsewhere in the nation.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“I’d like to dedicate this interview to the amazing moms and families of Castle Rock. A special shout out goes to Fit4mom, who have been not only supportive friends but also invaluable mentors over the past three years. Their encouragement and guidance have been instrumental in fueling my passion for swim education. Without the unwavering support of my local moms and neighbors, I wouldn’t have the drive or excitement to further my education in swimming and continue making a positive impact in water safety.”
