We had the good fortune of connecting with Keaton Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keaton, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Success and trust have to coexist together. Trust in the practice is vital, and that includes meeting them where they are at, show unconditional positive regard, and essentially building a relationship through one hour at a time. We as mental health providers become lighthouses for them. In doing so, they need to know we will be there when ready to make the change.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I was seeing where our mental health field was going. Our mental health was either falling into the traditional medical model where your treatment was dictated by managed health care/insurance and could only receive treatment for a certain degree of “struggle” or the corporatization of mental health where we need to generate profits so push sessions on people. Eventually my values and ethics led me to decide how people should be treated, thus starting Reignite Counseling. I’ve learned the value in creating a space for people to choose to go to sit in a place of reflection, or process through pain, or understand themselves or others differently where we can connect, laugh, explore, and shift things within us. The practices use research-based models where we know through science what works. I’ve learned the most people want their friends to listen but their therapist to guide, where most people have the idea of mental health therapy the other way around. With Reignite Counseling, the goal is to always show up as yourself (both provider and client), and meet somewhere where they are at. That’s always the beginning of impactful change.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anything around water is where I’d first take them. Rafting on the poudre is where we’d start the day. Get some adrenaline going to wake us up. Windsor has some great hidden gems, such as Pizza Vino and The Mill Tavern. I’d then take a bike ride up to horse tooth and enjoy some jet skiing or paddle boarding. We’d head down to Denver to hit either a Nuggets game or some other sporting event. Even though beaches are where I prefer, the mountains come in the close second. Hitting up steamboat springs, breckenridge, or keystone area is always fun for some good hikes. Ending the day with something to wind us down, such as a movie and drinks, is always a good way to end the day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Annie. I made the leap to private practice in the middle of the pandemic, where uncertainty was everywhere. She reminded me she is half of this team, and will do what it takes for me to experience life the way I wanted it. You are my rock!

My sister Sharnay. She provided the help and stability to make the transition by provided resources and guidance along the way.

My parents for recognizing the untapped potential, and gardening that to fruition.

My colleagues Phil, Sam, Kelly, Taylor, and Nick for the mentorship and efforts in supporting all of our businesses, and the efforts to create a community of success.

Finally my clients, for allowing me to teach and guide you, and for teaching and guiding me. “The greatest illusion is that life should be perfect”
