We had the good fortune of connecting with Keddjra Gallagher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keddjra, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The ultimate risk has always been showing so much vulnerability in my art. It’s not easy to share the most intimate parts of yourself with the world. This is a risk I take every time I perform, write, or release music.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my journey with garage band songs I’d recorded on my phone and a dream. After releasing my first album “how my friends must worry”, I struggled for about a year to put together a band to play my music live. I went through many different arrangements and variations of musicians before finally debuting “Keddjra the Band” in December of 2023; with Charlotte Seckman on bass, Eric Welty on guitar, and Jonny Marich on drums. Our sound is a heavier take on my released work, with fuzz bass and rock drums; but still keeps an electronic pop vibe, accentuated by harmonized vocals and synth-like guitar patches. Currently, we’re working on an EP set to release in May before we leave for our bone tired tour to the East Coast and Toronto. This tour has been put together completely independently with a lot of hard work and help from the amazing music community in Denver. I’m incredibly grateful for all of the support I’ve had with this project and I’m excited to see where we’ll take it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d probably take them to the Meadowlark on Wednesday for Off the Cuff, and the Squire any night of the weekend. The Crypt and sputnik are also pretty cool. I grew up in Sunnyside and have a soft spot for the Monkey Barrel and Sunny’s, though there are many trendy restaurants in the area.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to shoutout People in Between for the incredible community; Eric Welty for his patience, dedication, and wicked guitar solos; Charlotte Seckman for learning the bass for my band; and Jonny Marich for not turning down a challenge.
