We had the good fortune of connecting with Keli Jakel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keli, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Meeting clients where they are and helping them get to where they want to be. At Organized by Keli & Co, we recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all definition of being organized. An organized space is drastically different from person to person and situation to situation. Our team takes the time to listen, and we use intuition to get to the core of our client’s needs and goals.
Another factor to the success of OBK & Co (to piggyback off of the first part of this) is that I know my team and their strengths, and I can pair them with clients where they will make the biggest impact. I believe that when we can work within our strengths we are all happier. Having the intuitive nature to do this has brought immense success to my business and brand.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Organized by Keli & Co, we rely heavily on the intuition of our lead organizers. While our processes and procedures are important, our intuitive natures help us connect with our clients and deliver services that go above and beyond their initial needs.
We are constantly meeting people in the middle of major life shifts–whether that be moves, divorces, new babies, career changes, or anything in between. We need to be able to customize services to make the project efficient and exceed expectations while taking the client’s current life situation into account.
We meet these challenges head-on by giving our leads the training and tools they need to work with clients in their spaces. When we pair their training with their knowledge and personal experience, they make those intuitive decisions when working with clients.
Growing OBK & Co to where it is today has been a combination of knowing my strengths and weaknesses while finding the right people to help me utilize my time and energy. When I took the time to invest in a team, it gave me the capacity to focus on the things I do well and allow these team members to fill in my gaps.
Some of the main rockstars I lean on for guidance and assistance outside my lead organizers include my business manager, branding specialist, copywriter, and photographer. Working with these professionals and others along the way gave me the support I needed to keep growing OBK & Co.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Although you may think that professional organizers are super outgoing, this isn’t always the case. Many places in Denver are worth seeing, but truthfully I have just a few favorites that I would recommend as simple, easy living is more my style.
Now, when I have visitors from out of town, we must visit Casa Bonita, and I can’t wait for the reopening! I spent many field trips there as a child, and I know the magic it holds for Denver locals, so I love sharing that experience with others. However, if you are after some authentic Mexican food in Denver, you cannot go wrong with Los Dos Potrillos.
Also, I highly recommend those visiting the area check out the Eastern plains. My family farm in southeastern Colorado is a special place. While many tourists head to Colorado for the mountain views, I encourage you to enjoy the subtle beauty of the plains as well. They are truly amazing to see!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shout-out to my mentor (and former client!) Joel Goldhirsh. He and his wife moved to the Denver area from California a few years back, and his daughter called OBK & CO to facilitate their move-in and unpacking needs. Joel has ALS, so they needed this transition to be as stress-free as possible for him and his wife and caretaker, Karen. We put a team together, unpacked every box, organized the entire home, and made their transition effortless.
Near the end of the project, Joel pulled me aside and offered to coach me so that my company and I could grow and extend our services to even more families. That was just the start of our relationship—he has been mentoring and coaching me ever since. And that daughter that called to set all of this up? She is now a lead organizer for Organized by Keli & Co. It just shows you that things happen for a reason, and I will forever be grateful that this family came into my life.
