Meet Kelsey Burrows | Elopement and Lifestyle Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Burrows and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
I have two things that my photography business has taught me: (1) Find beauty in the ordinary and (2) Learning what intimacy looks like with different couples. Let me explain them to you 🙂 Finding beauty in every day ordinary things has developed over the course of my career and continues to. The things I normally would find ordinary is maybe a little park near my house, a small trail close to home or a building downtown. Now with new eyes (my lenses 😉 – I am able to see more beauty in creating from anything and anywhere. That also leads me to learning about what intimacy looks like with each couple I photograph 🙂 Everyone has a love language sure but intimacy has been something I have always searched to understand and never realized that I had been learning about it this whole time. Whether that’s lots of kisses and hugs or sitting with your favorite drink and favorite person talking about something deep, I am understanding the intimacy I crave.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Wow there is so much to answer in this but I think the biggest success that has kept me striving for more and the “next thing” is honestly patience, prayer, and persistence. Three ‘P’s that are VERY hard for me sometimes. I am human just like you 😉 This is how I often overcome a lot of challenges and things that aren’t within’ my control, which let’s be honest, there is a lot not in our control but also SO much. That made sense right? 😉 haha. I think something tactile that typically has helped me as well is to write down ideas I have or to just create with inspiration from Pinterest or something I saw someone wearing. Create often! Whether you have no idea what to create or you have too many ideas, do the damn thing. It’s like that quote that mentions how the only thing holding you back from succeeding is fear of failure or embarrassing yourself. Freaking doing it anyway! How else do you think people get to where they are who are successful? You’re one step closer to success when you fail 🙂 plus, failing is like trial and error. You see what works and what doesn’t and wallah, you have found your niche!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh man! Haha. Hopefully it would be during the summer when the weather is great! I would definitely have to say I’d take my friend hiking, tubing, to Postino’s for wine and food, to a place for paint and sip, a new brewery? Honestly I am pretty open with what I enjoy doing and showing others! There are a lot of beautiful places in the mountains to see as well 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would have to say that the biggest influence I’ve had was from a mentor session a few years ago with Macy Frances Photography. Macy helped me to connect back to my roots with my relationship with Jesus and how to bring that side of me and serving into my business. From that mentorship, I now have the goal to always treat others how Jesus would treat them (i.e., through empowerment, non-judgement, and love). Macy really showed me that God has created me for such a career as this and I get to be the person to share His love with others and my creative gift with others.
