Meet Kelsey Converse | Elopement Photographer & Business Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Converse and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m from a family of entrepreneurs who all pushed me to go into the corporate world. After 8 years of misery, I realized that it wasn’t the company, or the leadership that was making me unhappy, it was simply that I wanted more control over my own life, success, and direction. When I left, I wasn’t exactly sure what passion I wanted to pursue, so I tried a multitude of things. I worked at a gym, had a travel blog, and dove into photography. Ultimately, photography won and I realized that all of my passions of travel, being in the outdoors, and photography could create my dream job as an adventure elopement photographer.
What should our readers know about your business?
As an adventure elopement photographer, pioneering this niche in my local area posed its challenges. Elopements weren’t customary in my hometown, but I eagerly embraced the opportunity to reshape that perception. My goal was to offer couples an alternative way to celebrate their union for those unenthused by traditional ceremonies. What thrilled me was how my background in business school and corporate marketing unexpectedly became my secret weapons. Leveraging my expertise in understanding consumer needs and prioritizing their satisfaction seamlessly transitioned into my photography venture. It was about communicating effectively with these couples, knowing precisely how to cater to their desires. The culmination of my past experiences was reflected beautifully in my photography business—it became about unveiling to couples a day they never imagined they could experience. I take immense pride in having reshaped the narrative for numerous couples and fellow photographers alike.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would absolutely take them on day trips outside the city. I love the city, but one of the best parts of Colorado is its nature surrounding. The smaller towns of Evergreen, or of course Boulder, where we can walk around, do some hikes, then end brewery hopping in the city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give my shoutout to my mom. She has always been my biggest supporter, and taught me that if I wanted something, then I needed to work hard to get it. I’ve seen my mom go through a lot – she’s the strongest person I know. She consistently gives me the confidence that I can overcome any obstacles and challenges I may be faced with.
