We had the good fortune of connecting with Kevin Lynn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kevin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am a designer by nature. I have always loved creating! From a young age I loved designing things, form, function, visual appeal and so on. With a degree in Landscape Architecture I worked for a number of high profile design firms in Denver, Colorado until about 2009 where I moved from a creative roll into a builder roll when I joined the construction industry. With an urge to still find that creative outlet I took my lengthy passion for freshwater fishing and creating into bait design. I had studied bait designs, color patterns and functionality for years when I finally decided to jump into the waters as a bait designer myself in 2019.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Starting a business from scratch is never an easy task. What would set me apart from other businesses in the same field? Creativity was the answer! Use nature and my own crazy mind to come up with designs for baits that anglers had never seen before. There are a lot of copies out there in this industry and a ton of guys doing it. Slight tweeks to the existing ideas weren’t good enough for me. I wanted to be a true innovator in the field and produce baits that weren’t only cool to look at, but also caught a heck of a lot of fish.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love entertaining and thrive at seeing people have a good time. If I were to have a good friend visit me in Denver we’d definitely start by visiting a couple of the amazing micro breweries in town. After that a couple of days up in the mountains would be on tap. Head out for a rafting adventure along the Arkansas River followed by wetting a hook downstream to see who could land a few nice rainbow trout and smallmouth bass.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my father for introducing me to fishing at a very young age. He took me out on the lakes, rivers and streams in Alabama to learn the craft of fishing around the age of 5 or 6 years old. He was a true outdoorsman. He spent countless hours hunting and fishing all over Alabama and the southeast. Even though I enjoyed hunting whitetail deer as a youngster I gravitated more toward fishing. That was the real challenge for me! Trying to land the bigger fish that day was always my goal!
