We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Hess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk-taking has always been at the core of who I am—whether it’s standing on the summit of Mt. Everest, pushing through the challenges of climbing the Seven Summits, or starting a business in a small ski town. Each of these moments required courage, preparation, and trust in myself, even when the outcome wasn’t guaranteed. Climbing taught me that calculated risks lead to incredible growth, and that mindset has been the foundation for everything I’ve pursued—both on mountains and in business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Revolve Wellness & Recovery is all about helping people move easier, recover faster, and live better. We provide science-backed holistic services like red light therapy, infrared and traditional saunas, cold plunging, and compression therapy, all designed to help clients feel their best—whether they’re recovering from a tough workout, managing chronic pain, or simply looking to relax and recharge.

What sets us apart is that we’re not just offering services; we’re creating an experience. From the moment you step into Revolve, the focus is on intentional recovery and providing a space where people can prioritize their well-being. I’m most proud of seeing clients walk away feeling better and more empowered in their daily lives.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. Starting a business in a small ski town comes with its own set of challenges—like navigating seasonality and educating people on the benefits of recovery services. But challenges are nothing new for me. Climbing the Seven Summits, including Mt. Everest, taught me resilience, problem-solving, and how to stay focused on the goal no matter how tough the journey gets.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t do it alone. My brother, Steven—who’s also my climbing and business partner—has been instrumental in making Revolve a reality. I’ve also leaned heavily on the support of my community, friends, and the climbing mindset of taking things one step at a time.

What I want the world to know about Revolve is that recovery isn’t a luxury—it’s essential. We all face physical and mental stress in our lives, and finding the time to pause, recover, and care for yourself can make all the difference. Revolve is here to help people do just that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting, I’d want them to experience everything that makes this area special—starting with the mountains. We’d hit the best hiking/biking trails or ski runs depending on the season, soaking up the incredible views that make this place so magical. Afterward, I’d make sure they experienced the local fitness scene that keeps me in shape. A workout at Manic Training is a must—it’s the ultimate way to push yourself—and we’d also squeeze in one of Nicole’s Pilates classes at Tonic Method, because she really knows how to kick your butt.

For lunch, we’d hit up some of my favorite spots like Backdoor Grill for epic burgers or Los Locos for tacos that never miss. After an adventure-packed afternoon, we’d head to Storm Peak Brewery for a post-activity beer—it’s the perfect way to unwind. For après-ski? It’s got to be Tbar—it’s the only way.

Dinners would be a highlight, starting with pre-dinner drinks at The Barley to set the tone for the evening. Then we’d head to Primrose for one of Kyle’s famous Vespers, Brass for shared plates, or Café Diva if we’re feeling fancy. The evenings would be all about good food, great conversation, and soaking in the mountain-town vibe.

Recovery would definitely be on the itinerary. I’d bring them to Revolve for a session in the sauna or a cold plunge to keep us feeling fresh for the rest of the week’s adventures. We’d also spend some time wandering downtown, checking out the local shops, and maybe catching live music or another unique event in town.

It’s all about balance—fitness, recovery, amazing food, and sharing everything I love about this place.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Nobody climbs mountains—or builds businesses—alone. My brother and business partner, Steven, deserves the biggest shoutout. Not only have we summited peaks together, but he’s been a rock-solid source of support and collaboration in bringing Revolve to fruition. I’m also incredibly grateful for my friends and family, who’ve been there through every adventure, and the amazing town of Steamboat Springs, which has embraced my vision and inspired me to keep going.
