Meet Kimi Fadick | Wedding & Portrait Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimi Fadick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimi, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Balance. I remember when I became a new mom 5 years ago and a question I would often ask older and more experienced moms at the park was, “how do you balance everything?” Most of them didn’t have the answer, and would just tell me it’s so hard. So I was left to figure this one out by myself. By definition balance means: an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady. That seems pretty attainable doesn’t it? I mean wouldn’t we all love for our lives to be balanced? A great visual for me when it comes to balance is when I see those rock towers along the river. Someone strategically placed each rock on top of each other and it stands upright and steady and is balanced (going back to the balance definition). Now that I am in my 10th year of wedding photography and a mother to two wonderful children, a wife to an amazing husband, a home to run, a social life to maintain…all while keeping up with the demands of running my own business life can get a little unbalanced. I would say I really started to think about my time and keeping things balanced in my life was when I had children. Time all of a sudden became very valuable. Some things I have learned along the way is: 1.) It is okay to say NO. It’s so powerful and humbling at the same time to say no. It’s okay to not have a full schedule! What’s powerful about saying no to something or someone is that I don’t become overwhelmed. I’m more energized for the commitements I have already made and I do not feel overwhelmed. When I learned how to say no I was able to balance the things in my life more.
2.). It is okay to rest. I love sitting in the silence for 10 minutes and breathe. When I take moments out of the day to “just be” I am refreshed and energized and more productive.
3.). It’s okay to take a break from work…one day off is a beautiful and rejuvenating time for yourself. I think it’s so easy to get caught up working all the time with your business…especially when it’s such a personal business and it’s my livelihood. I have to remember I have a life outside of it.
4.). I think having a hobby besides my job is a good thing to have. I love to refurbish furniture and cook new recipes.
So I think work/life balance is so important and in order to grow and not get burnt out!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been in the wedding photography world for 10 years, but my growth has been steady. The last two months I worked with Taylor with Taylor Jones Photography who helped and inspired me in so many ways to take my business to the next level. I had always been more of an artist so learning and mastering the business side of things was very helpful to my growth! Now, after working with Taylor and learning all the business insights to running my own business I am so confident and excited to give my clients an amazing experience. I absolutely love weddings and families. I love capturing the whole story of a couple’s love on their wedding day. When I meet families for their sessions I love capturing kids running through streams or doing cartwheels. My style is more along the lines of story telling. I really like to get to know my clients on a personal level so when I meet them or photograph their wedding I know who they are so I can tell their story beautifully as it unfolds. I love bold, colorful and authentic photographs. Beautiful light makes me so excited and I love finding it. With all that being said the best thing that I can do for myself is be authentic and true to myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d stay close to Eagle! In the morning we’d grab a cup of coffee from one of the many amazing coffee shops we have in town! Then if it was summer we’d mountain bike the awesome trails in the area and in the winter we’d cross country ski on the golf courses…or put on our snowboards and go skiing! Of course we’d have to take a trip through Glenwood Canyon and soak in the hot springs in Glenwood Springs and eat at nearby restaurants: Smoke or Everest Nepal Restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Taylor with Taylor Jones Photography has been an amazing mentore and business coach for me. I am so grateful for her authenticity and her ability to help me see things in myself that I didn’t know where there. I’m so grateful to have her influence in my life. It has changed me…it has changed my business.
