We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria Lockhart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The main reason I wanted to start my own business was so I could have a more flexible schedule for my clientele, as well as provide all the services I enjoy! I didn’t have full creative control or the ability to do all that I wanted in past barber shops and salons. There Is so much in the hair industry I love and am now able to do it all.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The wide variety of services I provide, from beard trims to full color corrections is what makes LocksbyV so unique. There was an awesome variety of experiences I had with different shops and great people! I learned so much from each place! It wasn’t easy, but with my expanding wealth of knowledge I was finally prepared to start my own business. Learning from past mistakes helped me so much to grow. I still to this day attend cutting workshops, color courses and still peek over at the other great stylists I work with, I am Always learning! This industry is always changing so I must be willing grow with it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First things first. Whenever anyone comes to visit in Colorado Springs, we always have to go to Garden of the Gods! It is so beautiful, and it takes a full day just to explore and hike this awesome park. After this, we have to go over to Manitou Springs to check out the penny arcade and the quaint shops. Shuga’s is always a must, their Coconut Shrimp soup is to Die for!! Shame and regret is a great stop for a fancy cocktail, it’s almost hidden away in the heart of the Springs! Josh and Johns Ice cream, a local favorite, is a sweet way to finish any day.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Growing up, I always watched my Uncle Jaime doing hair, it was always so exciting and interesting to watch! I was never bored watching him work his magic! The environment in the salon, as well as seeing peoples reactions when he finished would be so satisfying. It always sparked something inside of me! Later in life, my friends and family were the extra push I needed to enhance my career! They pushed me to be brave and open up my own studio space, something I could never do without their support!
