We had the good fortune of connecting with Felisha butler and Kodie Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kodie and Felisha, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being military spouses for the last 10 years, we’ve experienced quite the rollercoaster of military life. After sharing a few of our personal experiences with friends, we knew others would relate to the thoughts we had. We started writing, blogging, and podcasting about them. Social media was a great tool that allowed us to tap into our creative side. Being able to voice how we were feeling and the moment or experiences we may have had that related with others was extremely fulfilling

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As military families our lives are ever changing. Enlight of that, we often look for support in others amongst our community. However, while it has the power to be a beautiful thing it also carries a very negative stigma around it. When we started KoFe Confessions we knew we wanted to bring an end to the toxicity that swirls around the military spouse. Even though the past two years have come with its own set of trials, both personal and professionally, we have found that the good outweighs the bad. We continue to receive an outpour of love and gratitude. Since 2020, we proudly shed light on things military families may experience, resources they can use, and have created a safe space for over 26,000 in our community worldwide. We have been able to interview with Gold Star Spouses, raise funds for the fallen, and speak at retreats. Our hope is that we can continue to inspire our community and create tools that other military families can utilize, such as our children’s book for deployment.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Between the two of our families, we have eight children so we’re always looking for family friendly things to do in our city. Our top favorite place would be the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. The view, the atmosphere, and the activities are fantastic! We love spending hours there with each visit. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Pikes Peak, and Garden of the gods are a must visit, too, in our opinion!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our spouses, Mark and Dwight, along with our children have always been and continue to be the source of our inspiration and motivation. Our husbands have worked extremely hard to be where they are in their career today and are our biggest supporters when it comes to sharing our experiences as military families. Between the two of us, our 8 children, have experienced 4 deployments in the course of our husbands careers. They have taught us the true meaning of unconditional love, resiliency, and strength. We wouldn’t be where we are today without both of our families’ support.
