We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Cipielewski and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Gather Yoga and Wellness came from a deep passion for building community and creating a space where people feel safe, seen, and supported. I’ve always believed in the healing power of movement, mindfulness, and connection, and I saw an opportunity to preserve and expand a space that offered just that. I also thrive on challenge and growth, and stepping into business ownership pushed me to learn new things, think creatively, and grow both personally and professionally. It’s been incredibly rewarding to co-create a space where people can show up as they are and thrive.

What should our readers know about your business?
Gather Yoga and Wellness is more than just a studio—it’s a community space rooted in connection, healing, and growth. We offer yoga, mindfulness, workshops, and wellness services that support the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. What sets us apart is our deeply integrated approach—we don’t just offer classes; we hold space for transformation. Our instructors bring a wide range of experience, and many of us also have backgrounds in mental health, bodywork, and trauma-informed practices. This allows us to meet people where they are and create a safe, supportive environment for all.

One of the things I’m most proud of is how Gather has become a home for so many different types of people. Whether someone is brand new to yoga or has a long-established practice, there’s space for them here. We’ve intentionally created a culture that welcomes imperfection and honors individual journeys.

Nikki Chappelle and I were both teachers at Gather before we took it over. When we heard the studio might close or be sold, we felt a deep calling to protect what it had come to mean—not just for us, but for the broader community. We discovered that we shared a vision for what Gather could be, and we decided to step into ownership together. Though we weren’t new to leadership or responsibility, owning and running a business came with its own learning curve. We leaned into our strengths, did a lot of listening and learning, and relied on each other’s support to move forward with clarity and heart.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that success doesn’t come from doing everything perfectly—it comes from staying grounded in your “why,” being flexible, and continuing to show up. I’ve also learned the power of collaboration and not being afraid to ask for help.

What I want the world to know about Gather Yoga and Wellness is that we are here to help people reconnect—to themselves, to each other, and to what matters most. Our brand is rooted in authenticity, heart, and healing. We believe that everyone deserves access to practices that restore balance, build resilience, and create space for joy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came to visit Evergreen for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience—nature, music, great food, and the warm, welcoming energy that makes this town so special.

We’d start with morning coffee at The Muddy Buck—they have the best coffee, amazing avocado toast, and homemade cinnamon rolls that are totally worth the indulgence. After that, we’d hit the Three Sisters Trail or take a loop around Evergreen Lake, and if the weather’s warm, we’d definitely go kayaking or paddleboarding.

Of course, we’d get in a yoga class at Gather Yoga and Wellness—there’s nothing like moving and breathing with our community in that sacred space. Then we’d wander through downtown Evergreen, checking out local shops and galleries. After walking around, we’d head just down the road to The Blackbird Café in Kittredge for lunch—the food is fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing meal by the creek.

For live music and local flavor, I’d take them to Cactus Jack’s on a Saturday afternoon for burgers and tunes by the water—so fun and laid-back. In the evening, we’d dance the night away at The Little Bear, because no Evergreen trip is complete without a night of dancing and live music in that iconic venue.

Another must-do would be a Sunday afternoon at The Woodcellar, where they host outdoor concerts in the parking lot with great food and a friendly, easygoing vibe. We’d also hit Revival Brews for craft beer, good food, and possibly more live music if the timing works out.

Evergreen has this beautiful mix of outdoor adventure, soulful spaces, and vibrant local life. It’s the kind of place where you can be grounded and inspired all at once—and I’d want my best friend to soak in every minute of it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of so many people. To the friends and family who cheered me on through every step, and the students and clients who trust me to hold space for them—thank you. A special thank you to my business partner, Nikki Chappelle, for trusting me and stepping into this vision with me. And to my mother, whose unwavering support—especially her willingness to invest in my passions and trainings—helped make so much of this possible. Deep gratitude also goes to Nikole Yeagley, the original founder of Gather Yoga, for creating this beautiful community and for trusting Nikki and me with the next chapter of the studio’s story. Each of you has played a part in shaping this journey, and I carry your encouragement with me in every breath, every class, and every step forward.
