We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a love for all things photography related. I was always the girl with the camera growing up, asking for the newest, coolest, digital camera each year for Christmas, staying up all hours of the night taking silly photos with my friends. When I turned the big 3 0 I was really searching for something that gave me purpose and fueled my passion as well as paid the bills. That’s when I decided I was going to turn my passion into a business. I am an all in kind of person, when I am set on something I do it full force. I went and got everything I would need to start my business and haven’t looked back. The past year and a half my business has grown more than I ever thought possible and it fuels me every day to keep pushing myself to be the best I can, and I of course could not do it without my wife, best friends, and loved ones always pushing me to keep going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my photography I focus on capturing the love/moment for what it truly is in its most natural form. I want to create a safe space for all to feel welcome and loved. Love comes in all shapes, sizes, and forms. Love is love. No one likes a stiff -do this do that- photoshoot. In my sessions I want my couples to be able to feel free enough to be their silly, awkward, self. I want you to be able to run around and dance like you would in the kitchen when you’re home alone.

Growing a business today with the fight of social media doesn’t come easy for everyone. Social media is hard, but also the best way to grow your business, so how do you juggle it? It’s not only hard from a business standpoint but also hard from a mental health standpoint. Some days you’ve got the hang of it, some days you spend all day comparing yourself to not being as good as others. The thing that has helped me most is to remind myself daily that everyone starts somewhere, and if you never start you will never succeed. Learn to love the stage of life YOU are in and remember everyone is in a different stage of life.

I learn something new every single day in my business. Some of my biggest lessons have come from failure. So, don’t give up and believe in yourself!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am not local to the Colorado area but my best friend is so I am visiting often. First off we know I will be taking lot of cute pictures where ever it is we go! We love a chill day in nature, maybe grab some lunch in downtown Colorado Springs before doing some site seeing through The Garden of Gods. One of my favorite things we did while visiting was silent disco in downtown! Talk about a vibe! There are so many hidden gems around Colorado you can’t even go wrong with just a little driving around and taking in those mountains.

If I’m bringing my bestie to my town, we are stopping at a cute coffee shop in Rosemary Beach, grabbing some lunch with a view of the Gulf, and heading back to the beach to catch the sunset and either grabbing dinner or simply playing games on the beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am at today without my wife and my loved ones. They all play a huge part in my success. Self doubt, or imposture syndrome as some call it, is so real and they remind me every day that what I do matters and push me to not only keep going but to grow everyday. I am also very lucky to have found a group of local photographers in my area who support each other and believe in community over competition.
