Meet Kristen Fetting | Salon Owner and Stylist at Creative Chaos Salon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Fetting and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up my mother owned her own hair salon and as a child I would go to work with her as often as I could. I loved chatting with her clients and just being in the atmosphere. It’s definitely not like a traditional job it’s alot more fun and relaxed. I knew at a very young age one day I would own my own business I just wasn’t sure what type at the time. To follow in my mom’s foot steps I attended beauty school in 2001 and graduated in 2002. I’ve been working in the cosmetology field for almost 20 years now. About 5 years ago after moving to Colorado I worked in a salon that was not a very fun or friendly environment. It had to be one of the most dreadful places to work and I thought to myself there has to be something better. So 3 years ago I decided to open my own salon called Creative Chaos Salon where everyone could work in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Where everyone is welcome and no one is discriminated against. Right now I have 8 wonderful stylists working with me and we all couldn’t be happier. The Salon is still very new and we are all still building our clientele but I have high hopes that this type of carefree salon will expand and flourish.
What should our readers know about your business?
The Salon has steadily increased in clients and stylists over the last 3 years and we are still growing. I still have room for two more stylists to join our little community..
As the salon owner I want all my stylists to feel comfortable and get along with one another. So once a month we all get together for “team building events”. We take a vote and choose the activity. So far it’s been working very well and we are growing closer as a team even though we are all running our own sperate businesses..
Each stylist gets to own there own business and I give them a place to work and call home.
I do have to give my mom Valerie Baldwin most of the credit for my success she has taught me the right way to care for my clients and that it’s not all about the money it’s more about the relationships you build. She also taught me the makings of a salon at a young age so I would be ready when the time came. Not only has she helped with the above mentioned items but she also helped me fund having my own salon so I didn’t have to takeout any loans to start. Which I am forever grateful for.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A few of my favorite places to have dinner are. Paravicini’s Italian Bistro, their food is amazing and the atmosphere is so cozy. My second favorite place would have to be The Juicy Seafood Restaurant. I love crab and shrimp.
Manitou is always a great place to check out with all of the little stores around.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to say highschools that offer trade school to senior students are a great idea. I was able to get started in my career much faster than my peers who went to a traditional college..
