Meet Kristen Morris | Health Coach, Trainer, Fitness Instructor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve worked for gyms and studios since I started my career in health/fitness over 25 years ago. To be honest, it was the pandemic/covid that pushed me out of my comfort zone. Everything was shut down initially, but I knew people still needed to exercise and have that community support now more than ever. I thought, why not?!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Initially, I started training and teaching as a way to make money and stay in shape while in college. I found that I really loved teaching fitness because people really needed that positive healthy aspect in their lives. I felt happy that I could help improve their lives in some way. Connecting and getting to know my students is so important to me. I want to make my classes accessible and FUN. I want them to feel safe while they get uncomfortable. I’m not afraid to be myself and make mistakes… and I think that opens up space for them to do the same. Being healthy inside and out is SO much more than how we look physically. It’s about emotional and spiritual health… feeling good in your skin. Doing your best. Looking good is just a by-product of feeling good.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is my third season (summer/fall) in Aspen, CO., so I’m still new to this area. Of course my plans would involve something active, with healthy delicious food! When my friends visit, I take them outside of course! Everywhere you look, there are incredibly beautiful views of the mountains. I would rent some bikes and ride to Maroon Bells, hike to crater lake. A yoga or sculpt class with me at O2 Aspen, gorgeous studio with a view. Biking on the Rio Grande trail to Woody Creek for a cocktail. Gondola ride to the top of the mountain for lunch and more views, or even better a hike to the top on the UTE trail!! A fun outdoor bootcamp or pop-up class at the St. Regis courtyard. Lunch at Spring Cafe, organic and vegetarian. For dinner, Pyramid Bistro… a nutritarian restaurant where the food is delicious and nutrient dense… at an old historic home that is now a book store/restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my friends, husband and loyal students that I have worked with for years. My students (who became friends over time) were very encouraging. My friends really helped me figure out all the details that I was unfamiliar with. My husband’s support was really what helped me get KZM up and running.
