Meet Kristen Roberts | Interior Designer, Owner of Blue Mountain Creative

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristen Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristen, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
A recent book I read was Atomic Habits by James Clear, and it really shifted how I approach personal growth. It taught me that small, consistent habits can lead to big changes over time. The idea of building identity-based habits—focusing on who I want to become—was especially powerful. Since reading it, I’ve made simple daily routines that have helped me feel more focused and aligned with my goals.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Blue Mountain Creative is my interior design business focused on residential renovations with an emphasis on kitchens and baths—my favorite spaces to design. Creating a kitchen feels like playing a game of Tetris to me: every detail needs to fit just right for beauty and function to work hand in hand.
Over the past decade, I’ve flipped houses in between running two design businesses, often doing the work myself—plumbing, electrical, tile, you name it. That hands-on experience taught me the realities of construction, the importance of smart budgeting, and gave me a deep respect for the trades.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend creative vision with practical know-how. I understand what’s behind the walls, not just what goes on them. Blue Mountain Creative is about more than pretty spaces—it’s about designing homes that truly support real life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend came for a week, we’d mix adventure, relaxation, and great local spots. We’d kick off with a hike on The Crags Trail and coffee with a view at Wild Horses Cafe. A scenic bike ride or drive through 11 Mile Canyon would be perfect for exploring the area’s beauty. We’d savor BBQ at Fat Shack in Lake George and spend a leisurely day floating down the Platte River. To cap it off, paddleboarding among the rock formations at 11 Mile Reservoir would be a highlight. Throughout the week, we’d enjoy a balance of outdoor fun, delicious food, and stunning scenery that truly showcases the best of the region.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Without a doubt, I owe so much of where I am today to the unwavering support of my family and friends. Their encouragement has kept me grounded and inspired through every chapter of my journey. But most of all, I want to dedicate my shoutout to my late father. I think of him every single day as I navigate life and make important decisions. His wisdom, strength, and quiet belief in me continue to guide me, and I carry his influence with me in everything I do.
