We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Battenfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It actually came out of a joke that I would make at work … I had sold almost every type of advertising in Denver (outdoor, newspaper, digital, large format printing and television) so I would joke that I should start my own ad agency since I know all of the mediums so well. And then one day about five years ago, I realized that it would be a great idea to actually put my punchline in to practice! I feel very strongly about helping my clients and not wasting their time or money so it’s a perfect fit for me to have my own business and work with fantastic clients.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KBat Communications is a marketing & advertising agency that does a little bit of everything. I focus on traditional media buying (television campaigns, outdoor advertising and print ads) along with managing all aspects of Google Ad-Word campaigns. I’ve found that many businesses have been “burned” over the years from a not-so-trustworthy agency that speaks a lot of digital lingo but ultimately charged too much for very little effort. I would never do that and have built my entire business model on transparency between myself and my clients. I also manage over 20 social media pages from LinkedIn to Facebook/Instagram for clients that range from lawyers to spas and pediatric clinics across four different states. What sets me apart from other agencies is that every single one of my clients is either a referral or a friend’s business. It’s so flattering to get a new referral from an existing client because it means that I am doing a good job. My clients know that they can trust me and that I always have their best interests at heart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado has a little bit of everything for everyone which is what makes it so fantastic. I am hard-pressed to leave in the summer months because “why would I?” As an itinerary, I would start in Denver and leave time for the mountains of course. I have lived in the Highlands for 20 years now and I am definitely in love with my North Denver neighborhood. Highlands Square is about as charming as it gets… I’d make time for a cocktail at El Camino, dinner at Stella, the farmer’s market on summer Sundays, some good wine from Mondo Vino and patio cheese/crackers from St Kilian’s cheese shop. I’d also build in some mountain time starting in Summit County. The tiki bar on Lake Dillon is dreamy on a sunny summer afternoon as is the main street of Frisco. If looking for a little more luxury, a night or two at the Westin Riverfront in the Vail Valley is always lovely. They have such a great hotel with one of my favorite pools in the state – winter or summer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This is a great question because I have spent over 20 years building a network in Denver and across the country and almost everyone has influenced me along the way. My first job when I got to Denver in 1997 was at the Rocky Mountain News newspaper. Michelle Ackerman and Jann Lariviere gave me a shot and have championed me ever since. Additionally, the people that I met at the paper have grown in to lifelong friends and influencers for me and my business. Currently, the digital brilliance of Will Elmore is second to none and he played a big part in giving me the confidence to start my own agency. Lastly, my clients, friends and family that continue to refer me to new clients is the life-blood of KBat Communications.
