We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Killtastic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creating for a living is a dream for most artist. It is a sincere happiness that often spreads genuine joy to others. I wanted to be a part of a beautiful circle. I want to use my art to inspire and motivate other creatives to never give up and keep chasing their dreams.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a cosplayer, which mean I dress up as characters from movies, tv shows, comic books, animes, and video games. I use my craft to challenge my skills and push my self harder to create more difficult and tedious characters. I work very hard to get booked for comic cons around the US. My personal duty as a cosplayer is to inspire, motivate, and educate. I want to see more people get into this enjoyable craft. It’s not about just going to conventions, it’s about seeing a child run up to you thinking you are the real Princess Ariel or the real Superman. It’s spreading hope to kids in hospitals. It’s teaching others that heroes truly exist and you can simply be one. Those are the best moments and memories that cosplay has brought me.
Cosplay has taught me many life lessons along the way too. The number one lesson I learned that was the hardest for me is that you are not going to be good enough for everyone. You have to create for yourself. Not for your fans. If you worry about what everyone else thinks of your cosplay then you will never enjoy yourself.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s quite a few people through my journey that definitely deserves a shoutout. Let’s start from the very beginning of 2014 before I even knew what cosplay was. My best friend, Lori, introduced me to cosplay. Next I want to thank Bernie, who took me under his wing and sponsored me my first few conventions as a guest cosplayer at local comic and sci-fi conventions. I also want to thank all the photographers who turned my art into masterpieces, especially Helix Digital Photography and Chiseled Light Photography. They have been working with me from the beginning. Lastly, I want to thank the important people in my life, my friends. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for them. My success is their success as well. They deserve so much recognition. I am very grateful for all their love and support throughout my cosplay journey.
