We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been on the academic track, finishing all the degrees. . . but it never quite felt like the right fit. I love learning, and I love education, but at the end of it, I felt like a bit of a phony – as though the title ‘Scientist’ just didn’t sit quite right. To that end, I thought moving to own my own business would feel more like something I could mold into something that felt more like me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Before The Loopy Ewe, I worked as a Research Scientist at at the USDA for 5 years. I then worked as a research grant administrator and project manager for several years at Colorado State University. I have a lot of experience tracking details/data! Those positions also gave me lots of experience working with different groups of people. These experiences really helped my transition to owning a yarn store. What I have learned since taking over the reins at The Loopy Ewe is that owning a yarn store is sometimes a lot like being a bar tender. People just want to be heard and appreciated. We really aim to do that here!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am such a homebody that this is a hard one! I’d probably take them for a hike somewhere – depending on the friend it could be a trip up to Horsetooth Rock, or if a more adventurous friend maybe up to Chasm Lake. We’d have coffee, probably at Starry Night (I wish they’d open up a store again on the South side of town!!). We’d probably cook at my house and enjoy a nice wine or beer (local of course!) with our meal. If we had multiple days, we might do a brewery tour – we love Odells and New Belgium at our house, or if my visitor was more of a wine person, maybe a trip to Sweetheart Winery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Bob, has always been there to push me a bit and back fill my overextensions 🙂
