We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylee Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When we first moved to Colorado I was working remotely from home for a credit union in my home state of Louisiana on a temporary project. When the project was complete, I started looking for a new job. I went to work for a week for a company that handled my hiring process poorly. During that time, a good friend of mine was running her own in-home daycare as a military childcare provider. I started talking to her about it, gathering information on how to get started and decided that it was something that I would be interested in doing. I have always wanted to be a teacher like my dad so I knew this was a way that I would get a chance to do that as teaching the children in my care would become one of my top priorities. I also found that I missed being home with my children. I loved being there when they returned from school or had time off. Starting my own business would allow me to be home with them. In September 2019 I started my business and five years later, I am still up and running.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I would want people to know how much I care about my job and how much I take pride in what I do. I offer a service that is not only beneficial to parents so they can go to work but also benefits their children through learning. Working with children is always something I have wanted to do and in the last 5 years I have been blessed to be able to do so. I take pride that when children leave my program to head to school that they are fully ready. This year I have a kiddo going into kindergarten that is already reading. We also celebrate cultures here! I love learning about my kiddos cultures and doing crafts/assignments based off of them.
My childcare program is a true family home facility. My daughter is my assistant, and my husband is my substitute when I have appointments. I am very thankful that they are here to help me when needed. The children that come into my care, truly become part of our family.
I also want to tell others to not shy away from home childcare programs. We are here to help your child thrive and learn and often times in smaller groups which alone for more one on one. I thank all my families for taking a chance on me as I truly do love what I do.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
With every success story, there is always at least one person to thank that has contributed to get you to where you are today. I am lucky to have a few mentors that help me build my business. With out them, I don’t know how successful I would have been. To Ashley G., you are the reason I started this business. With your help, I was able to start building a foundation that I have continued to build on today. Your guidance along the way will be something I am forever grateful for and I will always contribute my success to you. To Melissa E., thank you for all of your help when I started this business. You were there to answer any question I had, and we both know, I had a lot. You have always been around to lend a listening ear when I was having a hard time. You never shied away from helping me. You, along with Ashley, help me get my business off the ground and I will forever be grateful. I have really enjoyed the relationship that we have built. To Amber D., while we did not know one another when I first started my business, you came along later and helped throughout my state journey, and you are always willing to help. The trust and faith you have in me speaks volumes, even down to allowing me to care for your amazing son. I know you will always be by my side. To Deena B., you have been my guiding light throughout this journey. We met through the care I provided for your daughter and have become best friends. I loved watching you start your own in-home childcare business and thriving through it. The support you give me is like no other. You are always there for me when I need you both personally and professionally.
I also have had some amazing support from other providers. Without them, things would be hard and lonely at times. I would like to thank the support group I have on a social media chat we have. They all know who they are, and I am so very thankful for each and every one of you. From questions to hard time and to quick funny moments, you all have been there. It takes a community, and I am so very thankful for ours!
