Meet Kylie Wingfield | Model and Full-Time Student

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kylie Wingfield and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kylie, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people don’t realize that a model’s job goes far beyond being behind the camera or waking a runway. Models are also responsible for building their own brand and connections. Many people aren’t aware of how long the process of growth can be. I’ve been in the industry for almost a year now, but it’s taken me that full year to finally start building connections. It takes a strong strategy to become more than “just a pretty face.”

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up on a farm in a town of just 50 people, I learned early on that hard work doesn’t always equate to success, but it does make you resilient enough to keep going, even when success feels out of reach. I once thought my small-town background would limit my opportunities, but I’ve come to realize it gave me an advantage. It shaped my morals and determination which created a strong foundation for the person I am today.
When I began my modeling journey, I knew it wouldn’t be easy, especially with severe pectus excavatum. My condition not only affected my physical appearance but also my ability to perform. At first, I wanted to use modeling as a way to bring awareness and representation to my deformity, showing others that beauty exists in all forms. While that remains a passion of mine, my condition eventually became too severe to continue at the pace I had hoped for. Surgery became more necessary. I will soon find myself pushing through a long and challenging recovery while balancing work and school. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has taught me perseverance, and the importance of a strong support system. The people in my life have made this transition easier. They remind me why I started this journey in the first place. While my path may look different than I originally envisioned, I know that my story is still being written. And when I step back into the modeling world, it will be with even more purpose, strength, and appreciation for the journey that got me there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is hard! Of course if you’re visiting Colorado Springs, taking a trip to Garden of the Gods is a must. I would start there for a short hike, then grab lunch somewhere like Lumen8. It’s got beautiful views and an incredible atmosphere. Another favorite place of mine is Phantom Canyon Brewery. During the warmer months, the Ford Amphitheater usually has something interesting. I also love driving through the mountains at any time, but a quick and easy trip is through the Air Force Academy. I could list so many more favorite places of mine, but I don’t want to give away all of my secrets!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my favorite photographer, Jeff Goldberg, for helping me grow my confidence and courage being behind a camera. Jeff has an incredible talent, and it’s because of him that I have gained access to so many incredible opportunities. Of course I couldn’t do any of this without the support of my family. They have been so incredibly generous and I couldn’t be more grateful. Lastly, I want to thank my best friends for supporting me and pushing me from the start. Whether they are standing next to me or thousands of miles away, I can hear them cheering just as loud as they did 10 years ago.
