Meet Colin Stewart | Entrepreneur and Founder of STEM Child Care

We had the good fortune of connecting with Colin Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Colin, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
At STEM Child Care, we see ourselves as part of the solution to Colorado’s childcare desert. Families in our community often struggle to find high-quality early education, and many programs focus only on supervision rather than true learning. Our mission is to provide children ages six weeks to six years with a safe, nurturing, and STEM-focused environment where curiosity and critical thinking are encouraged from the very start.
We’re also passionate about making quality care accessible, not just available. Through our participation in Colorado’s Universal Pre-K (UPK) program and acceptance of CCAP (Colorado Child Care Assistance Program), we open doors for families who may not otherwise be able to afford this level of education. This ensures that all children—regardless of income—have the opportunity to thrive, learn, and build the foundation for future success.
By combining educational excellence with inclusivity, we’re helping both children and families in Castle Rock feel supported, while strengthening the community as a whole.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
STEM Child Care was created with the vision of offering more than just childcare—we wanted to build a learning-focused, STEM-based environment where children could thrive academically and socially from the very beginning. Every classroom is designed to spark curiosity and joy in learning, and we’re proud to serve as a trusted partner to families in a community where quality care is often hard to find.
One of the things we’re most proud of is that we never closed a single day during COVID. At a time when uncertainty was everywhere, families counted on us, and we had to become our own problem solvers—navigating changing guidelines, protecting the health of our children and staff, and creating stability when the world felt anything but stable. That spirit of resilience continues to guide us today.
Of course, running a childcare center isn’t without challenges. Teacher burnout is very real, and the rising costs of operating a high-quality program are constant hurdles. But we’ve learned that by investing in our teachers, supporting their well-being, and creating a culture of appreciation, we can sustain the heart of our mission.
The biggest lesson along the way has been this: when you stay grounded in your “why”—providing safe, nurturing, and educationally rich care—there’s no challenge too big to overcome. We want the world to know that STEM Child Care isn’t just a school; it’s a family-owned business committed to giving children the best possible start, no matter the obstacles we face.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For some fun in Castle Rock, I’d start with coffee at LOST Coffee and brunch at Pegasus before strolling the downtown shops and Festival Park. For some outdoor fun, we’d head to Philip S. Miller Park to hike the incline, explore the playgrounds, or let the kids enjoy the splash pad in the summer. To wrap up the day, we’d grab cocktails at Provision downtown—perfect for ending a Castle Rock adventure.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give my biggest shoutout to our amazing team of teachers and staff at STEM Child Care. Day in and day out, they pour their hearts into nurturing, teaching, and supporting the children in our care. Their dedication is what truly sets our school apart—they’re the reason families feel so connected and confident in our program. I’m beyond grateful to work alongside such passionate and hardworking people who make such a difference in the lives of children and families every single day.
