We had the good fortune of connecting with Larissa & Bailey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Larissa & Bailey, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
When most people think of a couple choosing to elope, they think of running away, telling no-one and getting married within a few months of meeting. There doesn’t seem to be thought or intention behind eloping. As elopement photographers who’s sole job is to capture the story of eloping couple’s wedding day, this is the furthest from the truth. Couples who choose to elope are more intentional than many large wedding’s I’ve photographed. In many cases they thought about (or even started) planning a big, traditional wedding. But somewhere along the way they got caught up in the fact that this big day, in front of all these people they barely knew, pleasing guest after guest and spending way too much money didn’t feel like them. Instead they want to keep the aspects of a wedding day they love and get rid of the rest. Our couples are very intentional in where they want to elope, how they want to do it, who (if any) they want present, and what activities they do on their elopement day that feels like them. Eloping couples are thoughtful and intentional every step of the way because they truly get to celebrate their marriage in a way that feels 100% like them.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We The Light Photography started off photographing many things including more traditional, big weddings. As we continued to photograph and be a part of people’s days, we wanted to figure out a solution to still tell love stories, but share our passion for the outdoors and create wedding days that were as fun and adventurous as our couples. We slowly transitioned out of the big wedding world an focused solely on elopements. Our biggest challenge is distinguishing ourselves from all the other photographers who have recently also focused more on elopements. Where we really shine is truly helping our couples plan a whole day that really feels like who they are. We don’t focus on just the ceremony and a few photos afterward, but rather what’s the absolute best day you can think of spending together?
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of our favorite areas of Colorado that most people miss when visiting is the San Juan mountains. Telluride, Ouray and Silverton are some of the most magical places and have such a unique an stunning mountain range. From High Pie Pizzeria + Tap Room in Telluride to the peaceful Dunton Hot Springs to hiking Ice Lakes Trail along the Million Dollar Highway, there is so much magic to discover down south.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Rising Tide Society and their local Denver group deserves so much recognition as a safe, rewarding, uplifting and empowering creative entrepreneur group that helped me get my business off the ground. I am still an active participant and the group helps me to grow more every year.
