Meet Laura Asbury | Registered Dietitian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Asbury and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have a passion for helping others. My first job as sports dietitian was working at Florida State University with the football team. While I loved it, I knew there was deeper roots in nutrition I wanted to touch and I wanted to have more impactful and meaningful conversations. I wanted to start my own business to connect with people who are motivated to make sustainable healthy changes in their life and want to become the best versions of their self.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since high school I’ve always known that I wanted to become a registered dietitian. Growing up and playing sports and not fueling my body properly made me want to work with active individuals and athletes. I pursued sports nutrition and obtained my masters in sports nutrition from University of Colorado Colorado Springs and decided to take internships with the MLS and a fellowship position with Florida State University football. One of the biggest things that I learned about sports nutrition is that networking and how dedicated you are to the field is very important. After a long journey to becoming a registered dietitian and working at Florida State, I decided that I wanted to have more impactful conversations with individuals to really help their nutrition habits. Through my own journey with nutrition, I became very passionate about mindful eating and allowing a balanced lifestyle. I support a lot of my clients and finding a mindful balance within their own life while also crushing their performance goals. Put a lot of emphasis on “food is fuel” because it really is. Especially with anything performance related, you need to EAT in order to GROW!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve only lived in Denver for six months but I think doing an early morning hike and coming back to the city and catching a few beers at a local brewery such as Zuni Street, Blue Moon, and Odell is the perfect day. I lived in Colorado Springs for a few years and loved it down there so I would probably take them to crush the incline and enjoy the scenery. Excited to learn more about the Denver area once COVID opens more things back up. I love to frequent Sloans Lake as the views are spectacular.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have always supported me and doing what I am passionate about. I’ve had a ton of great mentors over the years in sports nutrition who have guided me to where I am now. I wouldn’t be here without them and I’m grateful that they took a chance on me to learn from them.
