We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruthy Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ruthy, why did you pursue a creative career?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because of my passion for art and the impact it has on others. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved to draw and create different things. As I grew older and my mental health started to decline, I found that art brought me peace. It was something that could help me through anxiety and depression while being able to make unique art. During the start of the Covid pandemic, I was trying to find something to do to pass the time at home. I was also in the process of grieving my dog Dylan, who was the true definition of a “mens best friend”. I found some businesses on social media who sold pet identification tags and thought to myself “I could make these for my other dogs”. I started to test out different pieces of wood and practiced my skills of pyrography. Within a couple of months I had some designs that I loved but I also wanted to share them with the world. Making the pet identification tags also helped me with my grief and with every piece created I went down memory lane of my time with Dylan. Dylan was the light of my world and truly brought sunshine on my dark days. I wanted to share this sunshine with others and hope to give happiness to every customer who purchases my art pieces. Three Dogs Art is in memory of Dylan and the light he brought to this world.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Three Dogs Art is different than other business because of how unique each piece is. No piece of wood looks exactly like the other. Each piece is hand drawn, wood burnt, painted and sealed so the end result will always look slightly different than another. I am most proud of the community engagement that I have with non-profits. Every month we donate to different non-profit animal organizations and it’s a great feeling to know I’m helping local organizations that help animals who don’t have a voice. I am also able to raise awareness on what those non-profits do and give them more exposure to more potential people who can donate to their cause.
Getting to where I am today came with a lot of trails and errors. There was several times I wanted to pack everything up and call it quits. However, I kept reminding myself the reason why I do this and kept pushing forward. Being a small business owner has been a rough road and has come with several challenges. I have learned that everything will not always turn out the way you pictured it, but the end result may surprise you and be a better outcome than you could have imagined.
I hope the world knows that Three Dogs Art is a company that strives to give our customers the highest quality of products and will always be a company who gives back to our community.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip in Colorado would be filled with lots of time outdoors! We have the most beautiful outdoor areas with so many places to hike. One of my favorite places I have visited is the Great Sand Dunes National Park, you really feel like you’re in another world. The scenery is truly unreal. We would definitely have to stop at Old Town Hot Pot restaurant in Aurora. This Chinese hot pot place has some of the best asian cuisine I have tasted. They will always leave you satisfied and planning when your next visit will be.
Golden has some hidden gems and has a little bit of everything for everyone. Kona Bowls has smoothies that will make you think you are laying out on a beach in Hawaii. Woodys Wood Fired Pizza has some tasty items on their menu and for dessert you could head to Goldmine Cupcakes for some yummy cupcakes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without my families support. They have been my biggest fans and have helped me every step of the way. I will always be grateful for everything they have done, and continue to do for the success of this business.
