We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurel Burlew and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laurel, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
I think our work life balance will constantly change throughout our lives. My balance was different before 2020, when I had a larger capacity and was able to take on more in work and in my outside life. I always try to embrace any needed changes to ensure my life is as balanced and healthy as it can be. Because of this, I am constantly examining the current balance in my life and am open to adjusting it whenever I need.
Alright, tell us more about your work. What sets you apart from others and most proud of?
I’m so proud of the memories I’ve been a part of helping capture, the beautiful moments I’ve helped create, and the freedom people feel when they see themselves in a beautiful way; I love all the ways photography allows for this to happen. It hasn’t been easy as a creative business owner, but I am grateful for all the people who’ve come alongside me to encourage me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely eat at Snooze for breakfast, Black Forest Cafe for lunch, and Skirted Heifer for dinner! I would take a friend through Garden of the Gods and then we’d hang out downtown, exploring all of the shops and getting coffee at all the local places. I’d definitely suggest we have coffee at Wayfinder Coffee Co, because it’s my favorite in the city! I might even take them on a tour of local parks, because there are so many hidden gems here.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Rising Tide Society has made a huge impact in my life as a creative business owner! Whether it’s been connecting with my local TuesdaysTogether group in person pre-covid, or the support I’ve found in the Creative and Chronically Ill group online, RTS has been a huge place for support. Their goal is to see each other succeed, because a rising tide lifts all boats, and they encourage all of their members in community over competition.
